ABB shooting aftermath: The call to ban guns
St Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 12 January, 2010 | Kurt Hoffman

Posted on 01/14/2010 4:01:10 AM PST by marktwain

Last week, we talked about the murderous rampage at ABB in St. Louis, in which 3 innocent victims were murdered (and their killer committed suicide), and 5 others were wounded, 2 critically. As is always the case in the aftermath of shooting incidents that get lots of attention, those opposed to private gun ownership are quick to exploit the outrage to advance the gun ban agenda.

So, in keeping with that . . . honored tradition, we hear from Judy Larsen, in an editorial titled "Haven't we had enough?" appearing in the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Ms. Larsen can at least not be accused of trying to hide her bias, with her very first sentence being:

I don't like guns.

Not liking guns, of course, is certainly Ms. Larsen's prerogative. Unfortunately, she doesn't take long to step well beyond her prerogative.

I'm not naïve enough to think banning handguns would be easy or would stop all gun violence. But we have to start somewhere.

"Somewhere," being, of course, a handgun ban--which even Ms. Larsen knows will not stop the killing.

I know guns still will be used to harm, to kill, to commit crimes. I'm not idealistic enough to think they'll disappear overnight. But, in time, fewer guns will be out there. And that's a good thing.

And in the meantime (a very long meantime, considering the hundreds of millions of privately owned firearms in the U.S., and the ease with which more could be smuggled in, if there were a ban providing the demand for contraband firearms), the people who will be unable to defend their own lives, because the gun they would otherwise have used for that purpose has been banned, are simply out of luck, I guess.

Typical liberal. I don't like it, so you cannot have it.

That Judy Larsen letter sounds familar. Does she just pop off the same screed to the local paper every time she gets an excuse?

“Let’s do this!”

I see you’re up and frisky this morning.

Judy the Jughead is oblivious to the carnage caused by her idiotic liberal philosophy. I know these liberals well. They’ll step over bleeding bums lying on the sidewalk and not even check to see if they’re breathing or call 911. They’re ego-centric monsters who care nothing for others. About 70 years ago Judy would’ve been standing a street corner screaming “Seig Heil!”

Doesn't Russia have strict gun control laws? Who did that help at Beslan?

Easy, FRiend, easy. She’s just mad because she knows she is fighting a losing battle. She says she is a teacher but doesn’t know or understand enough about human nature to recognize that if a person wants to murder, they will do it with sharpened sticks.

She alludes to the Kirkwood Missouri City Hall shooting where Cookie Thornton shot and killed several officers and city staff. What she did not say was Cookie did it with a stolen gun. He wanted a gun and he got it. Even if it was banned, he would have gotten it somehow.

Someone will make a successful lawsuit against an employer for disallowing firearms on their property and although ABB’s will be not stop happening, the outcome may very well be different.

Irony...

Funny how it may be a common trend that most gun owners, and specifically those who have made the decision to take their personal safety and self-defense seriously enough to learn, train and become proficient in the use of firearms...

Those are (in my opinion) the very people who value life more, in the ability and potential to take a life (or stop an attack) in the protection of themselves or others, than these types of people who apparently believe it is acceptable to be potential targets and victims of people who do not value life and would kill others for whatever means they can deduce...

A liberal statists’ “assumptive reasoning” is very easy to debunk, once again, in the aftermath of such incident...

Just my opinion...

Almost 50,000 people, men, women and children are killed EVERY YEAR in auto accidents ... but they refuse to ban cars ... the story doesn’t even make the front page (or the back page) ... I don’t understand.

Only well-trained professionals in the military and the police need handguns.

History proves that civilians are much better off without them.

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” Rahm Emanuel.

“A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie” - Lenin

“We want them registered” - Nancy Pelosi

Will anyone be surprised when the National Socialist Democrat Party pushes gun control?
