Bunny dance fraudster gets three years in jail

A man claiming to be wheelchair bound has been jailed for three years after he was caught on camera dancing with a rabbit mascot at an amusement park in western Sweden.

The 33-year-old's father was also given a three year sentence by Halmstad district court for his role in the major disability benefits swindle, local newspaper Hallandsposten reports.

As The Local reported in July, the 33-year-old man was asked to repay millions of kronor in social insurance benefits after authorities obtained a picture of him dancing with a life-sized rabbit at the Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg.

The 33-year-old, from Halmstad in western Sweden, had claimed for years that he was bound to a wheelchair and as a result qualified for public assistance in the form of payments made to “people in his immediate environment” who helped him with daily tasks.

The court found that the man's entire family was in on the scheme, described as highly systematic. As a result, his mother and sister were also convicted, both receiving suspended sentences.

While the doctor who originally examined the man didn't find any reason as to why the man couldn't walk, he nevertheless accepted the man's claims.

Between November 1st, 2005 and January 31st, 2009, the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) paid the man a total of 3,001,741 kronor ($400,000) in benefits.

Claiming he needed help eating, turning over in bed and getting from one place to another, the man succeeded in securing employment for family members, who were employed as his personal assistants.

But the man's scheme began to unravel back in June 2007 when police raided his home in response to a complaint of abuse and illegal imprisonment.

Among items confiscated by police were several photographs, including a picture of the man dancing with the life-sized bunny which serves as the mascot for Liseberg.

I can't help but view this from a serious angle.

The older I get, the more convinced I get that there is no such thing as a unique solution that provides an ideal societal concept for all cultures and nations alike.

The Scandinavian countries are often deemed “Socialist”. For good reasons.

But, just like a convenient label like “Capitalist” doesn't capture all of what America is and what America really stands for, it is, perhaps, more apt to call a country like Sweden something like a Capitalist-Socialist-Lutheran nation.

Capitalist-Socialist-Lutheran?

- Sweden has more roller coasters and McDonald's Restaurants per capita than the US.

- Sweden is, in one way, more Socialist than the Soviet Union. Instead of having a government pretending to pay the workers for their efforts and having workers pretending to actually work, Sweden has invented the welfare state consisting in perfectly healthy people driving around in premium/luxury cars without performing any work whatsoever accusing the government of letting them down.

- Martin Luther wasn't a son of any of the Nordic countries, but Lutheranism sure existed in this part of the world before Martin Luther.

In order to really understand Nordic culture, all one has to do is to realize the beauty of the so called Jante Law.

Aksel Sandemose, a 20th century Danish-Norwegian author, invented the term, but the spirit of the Jante Law/Janteloven is actually age old.

What Sandemose accomplished was to give an explicit, verbal interpretation of a tacit social “law” inherent in Viking Culture. Compare it to the Norse “Hávamál”! (Wikipedia features excellent articles on both of these Nordic texts and their respective contexts by the way)

The commandments that make up the Jante Law:

“1. Don't think that you are special.

2. Don't think that you are of the same standing as us.

3. Don't think that you are smarter than us.

4. Don't fancy yourself as being better than us.

5. Don't think that you know more than us.

6. Don't think that you are more important than us.

7. Don't think that you are good at anything.

8. Don't laugh at us.

9.Don't think that anyone of us cares about you.

10. Don't think that you can teach us anything.”

Sens moral for immoral visitors of Swedish amusement parks:

It's okay to cheat the system a little, everyone does, but don't take it to far.

If you dare to, you might have to spend years in prison with nothing better to do than contemplating on the Jante Law.

“Why is the man’s name omitted?”

- Didn’t anyone tell you that we all could live happily together and certain crimes are so petty (due to the perpetrator’s cultural origin) that, upon hearing of them, we all must agree to shut down our minds?

Regardless of this:

“Sure, like you wouldn’t”

- Depends on the options:)

These girls are probably not even of Nordic descent, but of Russian-German-Italian-Polish-Russian-Canadian ancestry.

Probably, a cunning photographer found them in some shady bar in the outskirts of Duluth, talked them into wearing wigs and managed to put a smile on their faces by telling them they looked like a lady any son of the Corleone familia would dream to marry (not wishing to disrespect Italians in general).

Scandinavia is famed for beautiful women, but recently, the Brits have been challenging us in this field.

This highly convincing piece of propaganda was recently launched by the MI5:

Do you have any good links that explain Jante law more thoroughly?
