Muslim question persists in Army shooting--Signs missed at Fort Hood
The Washington Times ^ | January 18, 2010 | Bill Gertz

Fear of offending Muslims or being insensitive to religion was likely a key factor to why Army supervisors missed signs that the suspect in the deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage was a Muslim extremist, according to national security experts.

Senior Pentagon officials last week sought to play down or sidestep questions about why Army supervisors and FBI counterterrorism officials missed warning signs or failed to take action against Army Maj. Nidal Hasan before the Nov. 5 attack, which killed 13 people — all but one them soldiers.

Rep. Ike Skelton, Missouri Democrat and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said in a C-SPAN interview Sunday that committee hearings set for Wednesday will examine the two "disconnects" related to Army personnel reports: that Maj. Hasan was promoted despite signs that he had become radicalized, and that intelligence reports indicating the major had terrorism links apparently were ignored.

Patrick S. Poole, a counterterrorism consultant to government and law enforcement, said the Pentagon report did not address the problem of political correctness in the military "that allowed for Maj. Hasan's continued rise despite his poor performance." Mr. Poole said an "atmosphere of intimidation" exists in the military regarding Islamist threats that "prevented any substantive complaints to [Maj. Hasan's] increasingly extremist statements."

"Everyone along the way was content to give him a pass," Mr. Poole said.

Former Army Secretary Togo D. West Jr., who co-led a Pentagon review of the shooting, dismissed concerns that Maj. Hasan's religion was a factor in performance reviews during his career as an Army medical counselor.

Looks like the Army is trying to say a PC problem doesn't exist but others say differently.

Senior Pentagon officials last week sought to play down or sidestep . . . .

Look, you CYA doofuses, 14 innocent people, YOUR people, including an unborn child, died because you screwed up and put idiotic policies in place, or allowed your political bosses to set these policies with your aid and assistance. And they weren't even permitted to defend themselves.

Then you sent in another Muslim terrorist a few days later to explain the official position that Muslims must not be blamed for these things.

They just happen. Not my fault.

Well, 14 troops who trusted their superiors to look after for them are dead. What are you going to do about it?

Signs ignored.

Signs still ignored.

There are islamic radicals on every single military base in this country and abroad.

Can’t blame the supervisors for carrying out the explicit policy of the army dictated by the commander in chief. This policy caused them to ignore the obvious signs. Disciplining the supervisors for doing what they are told is wrong. The policy is wrong and the responsibility for that goes to the White House.

What are you going to do about it?

They will do what they usually do. Absolutely nothing. More and more people will be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. Remember, they believe diversity is more important than all those dead bodies.

Well said...The Army through Gen. Casey has already said diversity is more important than an incident like this. I personally believe he should be relieved of command and replaced which I know won’t happen.

For Togo West to come out and say PC is not a problem is pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows PC is exactly why Hasan was still in the Army when this happened.

You’re absolutely right, there’s only one CINC and those below him have to carry out orders or resign. If this PC policy doesn’t change there should be a lot of resignations, but there won’t be.

When the heck did the offense of offending someone become the most awful thing that can be done?

I guess when killing unborn children is considered the norm and to be protected, the entire foundation of civilization is upside down.

No day should go by without insulting the hate cult called Islam. It is a cancer on humanity that week kneed liberals keep calling a religion. BS!

If the world keeps appeasing this hate cult we will reach a tipping point where they will complete their goal of world domination.

At this point it would appear, nothing. But our diversity is our strength. At least that’s what the last memo from the CSA says...

Regards,
