Bleak Economic Projections as Obama Prepares for State of the Union Address

As President Barack Obama prepares to deliver his first State of the Union Address, he faces some bleak economic predictions from congressional budget analysts. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Tuesday projected slow improvements in employment and warned of an unsustainable longer-term fiscal situation against a background of rising debt.

The CBO projections came as the president vows to press ahead to achieve major policy changes he says the American people expect, such as health care and financial system reform, while recognizing signals sent by voters in Massachusetts where a Republican was elected to a traditionally Democratic Senate seat.

As Congress prepares to consider the president's 2011 fiscal year budget, due to be rolled out next week, the head of the independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Douglas Elmendorf, delivered this warning about the national unemployment situation:

"Employment will almost certainly increase this year. But it will take considerable time for everyone looking for work to find jobs. And we project that the unemployment rate will not return to its long-run sustainable level of 5 percent until 2014.

Well the CBO says we'll see unemployment drop to 9.5% by the end of 2011. Obviously this won't make Obama happy. How could it when 20% unemployment was his goal?

The public is by and large stupid and is just thinking about the Super Bowl or American Idol.

As far a businesses and business owners - Atlas started shrugging as soon as he was elected. They are usually very smart, geared towards surviving and will not risk their capital to hire people while he is in charge.

Go right ahead and "press on", Obama.

Just know that The People's anger and opposition to you and your party will rise in direct proportion to your ignorance of our clear signals to you.

It's going to get bleaker as 0 pursues his War On Seniors.

The new Demonrat mantra! Woof, woof, let granny eat dog food...spoof on 'let them eat cake'. obama's war on seniors See the links in post 43-46 and on the last page.

Expanding support for families balancing work with caring for elderly relatives with a $102.5 million Caregiver Initiative adding $52.5 million in funding to Department of Health and Human Services caregiver support programs that provide temporary respite care, counseling, training, and referrals to critical services. The administration says the extra funding will allow nearly 200,000 additional caregivers to be served and 3 million more hours of respite care to be provided. It also adds $50 million to programs that provide transportation help, adult day care, and in-home services, such as aides to help seniors bathe and cook, help which eases the burden for family members and helps seniors stay in their homes.

He will try to appeal to Democrats and throw some bones to Republicans, just like he did in first SOTU - to appear “bipartisan” / “nonpartisan” / “post-partisan” etc.

Since we know that he is going to lie when he does that, the best thing Republicans can do when he will play “conservative” is to sit on their hands and not applaud - what’s the point if we know he is not sincere?

That would make for some awkward moments for Obama (teleprompter will have a programmed pause for an expected applause) and will deny him what he covets most, in front of millions of viewers.

This will send the same message as Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) “You Lie!” ... even louder, because actions speak louder than words. And there will be no “incivility” so the media and Democrats will not be able to complain about “disrespect of the office”.

GOP, give it a shot. You can say what you need to say in your response to the SOTU speech.

Considering the dismantling of our country by this socialist punk, I’d say the state of the union is probably it’s shakiest since about 1861.
