I could do pretty well with my H&K 45 with 12 in the magazine and one in the chamber. Not only is it loud, but it makes a rather large hole.
I also have a Glock 21 SF Tactical .45 ACP 13+1 rounds so I understand. However the 10-mm Auto is like a .41 Remington Magnum and the greater velocity and energy has a more horrifying effect on the target. The Buffalo Bore and Winchester Super X Silver Tip rounds are particularly awesome as they have nearly twice the muzzle energy of a typical 45. Here is some technical data:

The 10-mm is effective against large game and has been used to hunt boar and kill mountain lions something the 45 large bore is not so good for because of its subsonic muzzle velocity. The 45 is a terrific close range combat weapon against humans especially with a 230 grain JHP which is what I use.
