Incumbent Rick Perry's lead over Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has grown a little bigger in the race for this year's Republican gubernatorial nomination in Texas. Tea Party activist Debra Medina also has gained ground, and her gains appear to come at the expense of Hutchison.
The latest Rasmussen Reports survey of likely Republican Primary voters in Texas finds Perry leading Hutchison 44% to 29%, with Medina at 16%.
Medina has gained four points since the previous survey while Hutchison has lost four points. Perry's support is little changed from a month ago.
Medina, the owner of a medical consulting firm, has seen her support grow from four percent (4%) in November to 12% in January to 16% now. She was invited to participate in a televised debate with Perry and Hutchison last Friday night based upon the growing voter support shown in the previous Rasmussen Reports survey.
Texas Republicans will choose their nominee for governor in a March 2 primary. New numbers on the Texas general election gubernatorial contest will be released tomorrow.

Perry leads Hutchison by 18 points among conservative primary voters, and conservatives dominate Republican primaries in Texas and throughout the nation. Hutchison leads by 11 among moderate voters.
Turnout is often difficult to project for primaries. However, for Hutchison to win with the current attitudes, she would need more than 50% of the primary voters to be politically moderate.
Perry leads Hutchison by 24 points among men and five points among women.
Medina picks up 20% of the male vote and 12% support from women.

I pray that Texas is smarter than Illinois. Get rid of RINO Perry and Hutchison.
Neither Perry, KBH or Debra are in the same low-rent league with ANY politician from Illinois.
I believe this is a year when women are passed over by voters in favor of men.
Isn’t that what happened in NY23 and in Mass.?
when is this primary?
Medina is just as bad. She has made some comments on her website now courting Conservatives, but overall, she stinks. (actually, the way she makes different statements to different groups means she would make a good politician).
In a commentary called Latinos and the GOP, she complained that immigration laws and hard line stances ‘hurt the GOP’ with the Latino community and she lambasted KBH for voting against Sotomayor because of the image it made with the Latino community.
She also has shown an ignorance of the simplest Texas laws in her calls to repeal gun registration (Texas doesn’t have gun registration) or to have ballot initiatives for things like party platforms (Texas no longer has ballot initiatives).
She would probably do well to run for dog catcher or something before claiming she is ready to be CEO of our great state.
Get rid of RINO Perry and Hutchison.
Sadly it will be one of the two IMO. Things can change rapidly in an election but I’m not sure it will change that much. Medina’s biggest problem is that she isn’t known amongst the primary voters accross the state and Texas is so large it takes lots of funding to get your name and platform out. She just doesn’t have the funds according the last report I saw today.

Rick Perry outraised Republican rival Kay Bailey Hutchison more than 2-1 in January and the two gubernatorial candidates go into the final month of campaigning with an identical amount in the bank - $10 million each. Perry raised $734,000 between January 1 and January 21, according to the latest round of reports. Hutchison raised $270,000 during the period — only about $100,000 more than insurgent GOP challenger Debra Medina. Medina collected $146,000 during the period. She has only $68,000 in her campaign treasury — suggesting it will be hard for her to go up on television in the primary campaign’s final weeks.
You conveniently discount her vast nursing experience.
Do I really need a sarcasm tag?
The best thing Medina could do is step down.
She's only running on the (R) ticket because she knows she could never win anything by running on the (Libertoon) ticket.
Let’s just say there’s not much running this year.
she criticizes Republicans, but never Democrats and she has been very devoted to Ron Paul for years.
He was a nurse too. Give him a break.
I have heard that she can almost always keep from mixing the thermometers up.
At least that is something.
You can say that again. The only thing Medina will do is cause a runoff because of splitting the vote. How much will that cost the hardworking people of TX? Some of her rantings are just bizarre.
I’m not as impressed with Medina myself, either.
I signed up for her email list, but ...
“z-z-z-z-z-z” ...
“Affectionately”, I refer to KBH as
Kayh-lid Sheik Hutchison!!
hahahahahahaaaaaaa !! :^D

I am voting for Perry in the Primary, for anyone
that might not have already gathered that from
the above comments. :)
Oh!
One more note...
I was not impressed with Medina in the first
debate, what little I caught on the Radio of
that.
Ditto for KBH.
The way I see it, Texas WINS with KBH exiting
and I look forward to seeing her replaced with
a Conservative Texan to represent the Republic
of Texas!! :)
LOL!!!!
