Diebold has begun to layoff workers here to fight off conditions that have dropped the company’s net income.
The company included the layoff announcement in its fourth quarter earnings report. The company said it plans to lay off 350 from its North American operations. About 250 of those cuts will come from its operations in Green, Canton and Jackson Township, according to spokesman Michael Jacobsen.
For 2009, Diebold earned $41.6 million, or 62 cents per share, down 53 percent from the $88.6 million, or $1.33 per share, it earned the previous year. Total 2009 sales were $2.7 billion, down 12 percent from the $3.1 billion in sales Diebold made in 2008.
Fourth quarter earnings were $16.7 million, or 25 cents per share, up from $1.1 million, or 1 cent per share in 2008.
Sales dropped 8 percent in the quarter to $724.9 million, from $791.1 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, primarily because of falling orders in North America.
Bush’s fault? :)
