A year later, where did the hopes for Obama go?
The Washington Post ^ | February 8, 2010 | Ann Gerhart

A year ago, Barack Obama's true believers were euphoric. The huge and jubilant gathering in Chicago's Grant Park on Election Night 2008 gave way to almost 2 million people on the Mall for the president's inauguration.

He took office as the most popular incoming president in a generation. A movement had become a mandate of nearly 70 million votes. People hoped the new president would bring change to Washington, the hallmark claim of his historic candidacy.

Now, the mood through much of the nation seems restive, even sour. It is almost jarring to look at the photographs from Grant Park, to study those upturned beaming faces, many streaked with tears. Was that a movement? Or just a moment?

She is a dream come true. Todd Palin is one of the luckiest men on the planet.

Almost 2 million people. Hah! It started out as about 850,000 which I doubt, but then it went to over a million now over 2 million. If they keep it up, the number of people will be as big as Obamas budget. Yet the Washington Tea Party only attracted 10,000. Yeah, right.

“somebody got an Obama cardboard cutout at a movie rental store, and in that way, Obama came to live with them for a while. “We kept him there for three or four months,” says Unser. “Everybody who came around wanted pictures taken with him.”

A lot of Germans worshipped Hitler too, didn’t make him a good person. Being able to whip people into a frenzy through a cult of personality and shared hatred of a common ‘enemy’ (the right and Bush) doesn’t make anyone a good leader.

A year later, where did the hopes for Obama go?

Done in by a lethal and bizzare mix of hubris, ineptitude and wrongheaded policies.

Like that's a suprise to anyone who wasn't at the Koolaid trough throughout 2008.

I wonder what all the Obamatons who expected federal manna to fall from heaven immediately in the wake of The Great Spreader’s inauguration are thinking now? I’m sure many of them, like Peggy Joseph, thought that their worries about making their way through life were over. Big Government would provide everything. Now they’ve found that they’re in the same place they were last year at this time or worse off. What are they thinking?

Wasn't THAT the darnedest thing? They have majorities and instead of concentrating upon work, they instead try to destroy Rush Limbaugh -- just like juveniles who didn't make it past kindergarten, how idiotic can they be?

Can you imagine a President Palin concerning herself & her administration with either Little Katie Couric or with Mrs. Alan Andrea Mitchell Greenspan?

What a bunch of losers.

It really irritated me how the MSM pretended that BHO had a mandate -- he didn't win by a landslide, not at all -- but lots of people new to politics actually believed the MSM and incorrectly concluded that their candidate won by a landslide and could now do anything.

I have a feeling it will be a long time before they ever actively participate in politics again.... I don't think that even Oprah could ignite any enthusiasm amongst them for BHO -- who, once elected was supposed to CHANGE everything, lololol

He took office as the most popular incoming president in a generation

An artificially created popularity courtesy of the mainstream media and Hollywood, along with a built-in hedge of protection from criticism due to his ethnicity.

Not something I would boast about.

Real American's are seeing through Alinsky practices/tactics(thank you Glenn Beck)...and don't like them.

Obama is a tool of George Soros...Soros hates America as well as most country's that stand for freedom(he doesn't like fair competition)...he is the Hitler of the 21st century in that the damage he has caused throughout the world through his misuse/manipulation of the free market capitalist system is wholly responsible for destroying many livelihoods, if not lives, for his own self-aggrandizement.

He makes Bernie Madoff look like a penny candy thief...

So yes America...DO pay attention to the man behind the curtain...

The giant head...the "Great and Powerful Oz(in his case zero's)"...that is Obama...is merely a creation of that little man pulling all the levers...and what he has in his sack of "hope and change" contains no heart, thought, or courage...just greed and destruction.

exactly! IT WASN’T A LANDSLIDE! (and trust me it would have been a landslide had Palin not been McCain’s runningmate—that was the best decision he ever made and it’s SOO RIDICULOUS how the media tries to spin his loss as if it were her fault...when in fact, Palin’s the one who gave McCain a decent chance of WINNING!)

His hopes went into trillions and trillions of debt spending which my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren are still going to be paying for if this world is still here.

OMG hennie pennie, and i’ll tell you why this bothers me even more. BECAUSE of the media’s efforts to make it look like Palin hurt rather than HELPED McCain—some Palin fans believe it and think “oh, I like her, but guess she can’t win an election, so I won’t vote for her.”

SO annoying.

Where has all the hope & change gone,
Long time passing,
Where has all the hope & change gone,
Long time ago,
Where has all the hope & change gone,
Obama fooled them every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

True...I initially had quotation marks surrounding the word “fans”, but then I realized some people may in fact just not understand the bigger picture, or fail to hear/read a wide variety of perspectives from alternative sources. I can’t blame them fully for that.

Obviously and thankfully though, more and more Americans have woken up to the bias of the media and have discovered the truth behind the saying “don’t believe everything you hear/read!”

Of course the Blame Bush Bunch will tell us it was the refusal of conservatives to support him that led to so many failures. BS. No President was ever treated as badly or demeaned as completely as George W. Bush. The outgoing administration did absolutely everything and anything it could to gum up the works of the transition. Even down to removing the W's from every keyboard in the White House!

Compare that to the way Bush handed over power to Obama.

And the amount of pure hate spewed toward Bush from the MSM and the liberals was far more than Obama has had to endure in his first year.

I figure Bush felt either Obama would make it or not. If he did then he wanted to be shown as being a part of that success. If not, then he could not be pointed out as part of the failure. Of course, any similarity between fact and what the Left comes up with is purely coincidental.

George Bush is the kind of man who will do what's right without regard to whether or not someone is watching. After watching him for 10 years I'm convinced that was his downfall. How sad that America as reached the point that being a person of character can be used in attempts to destroy you.
