California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, desperately seeking new sources of revenue to cover a $19.9 billion budget shortfall, yesterday declared a state of fiscal emergency. As part of his proposed solution, Schwarzenegger called for the deployment of a massive statewide speed camera program to generate at least $397.5 million in net profit to state and local government.
Under the proposal, existing red light cameras at intersections would be converted into "speed on green" cameras that issue citations to motorists who try to speed up at an intersection to make the light. Those who slow down and fail to make the light will be mailed a red light camera ticket.

Methinks the Terminator forgets why he was elected. Plus the cops want nothing to do with this, and this has already started talk of an initiative to ban ALL red light cameras as well as speeding cameras.

These speed and red light cameras have nothing to do with safety. Ask anyone in Arizona. We’ve got a full blown revolt going on here. This crap is just another scam to steal money from John Q. Public.

This is a disaster in AZ and there is already on the November ballot to remove them.

How about pushing nuclear energy or offshore drilling? How about controlling our border?
No let's squeeze our citizens a little more and cause more working folks to move to Utah. Yeah, that's the ticket!

They have to find enough ways to squeeze more dollars out of the people, cuz in the end, the pols know that if they could just get their hands on enough money, they could solve all of California's problems.

I am temorarily in Tucson Arizona and the people here are about to start shooting those damned cameras
Traffic goes at a crawl 3 miles UNDER the speed limit most places... because those mindless cameras bag you for $220 for 5 miles over

This crap is just another scam to steal money from John Q. Public. Which is exactly why SchwarzenKennedy proposed it.
The only real solution to CA's financial crisis is to return the Legislature to conservative control and hit the brakes hard on public employee union benefits. Snowball meet Hell. The state will continue to steal from the producers until we all head for Texas or Idaho.

This is EXACTLY why I do not speed!!! I told my wife long long ago after my last ticket, over 25 years ago, that I would NEVER donate to the cause again! It is all about additional tax revenue. And I ain't giving!!!!!!!! Plain and simple as that. We took a short shopping trip the other day. 100 miles up and 100 miles back. On one stretch the state troopers were pulling them over left and right. The limit was 65 and still must not have been fast enough for these people. Oh well, if you want to donate $150-200 of your hard earned after tax dollars to the government, drive on!!!

Same thing with excessive taxation of cigarettes. I guess the trick if you’re a politician is to find something that identifies a small enough class of people that the majority will go along with tazing them instead of themselves.
Speeders might not fill that bill...
