his mo from columbia days suggest that he went to the school of general studies and not the college.

Yes, college yearbooks are very different creatures from high school yearbooks. In many schools, only a tiny minority of people attending the school appear in any sort of yearbook. Records of clubs and other organizations etc. are kept by student secretaries and, since the student population constantly rolls over and most organizations don’t pay much attention to archiving records of semester-by-semester club activities, after a few years, such records are totally lost. And some students attend a university but never join a club or student group. And no PI can assume that he’s even located all surviving ephemeral records of all student groups, let alone the far vaster lost records.
I think that's where the irregularities lie. Did he go to Occidental College on a set aside for foreign students under the name Barry Soetoro? If so then he's either not a citizen or he got in fraudulently. Who financed all these fancy schools? Did he in fact get scholarships or did some Saudi back him? The evidence shows him bumming around NY snorting coke and being basically a slacker. How did he then get into Harvard and put on Law review?
Yes. Obama claims he went to Columbia and should be able and willing to prove it, but he won't, so the skeptics are left to look for evidence. Finding none doesn't mean he wasn't there--he could have been under a different name--but the skeptics have put the ball back in BO's court.

Personally I agree with you, COB, but it ain’t gonna happen. Best thing we can do is to make sure the electorate REMEMBERS how close we came in 2008 to losing our country - enough will still care, although we may have to rub their noses in it. If you were an employer and an employee you had hired listed Columbia on his job app, but after you had time to research his time at Columbia, you find that there is no record of him ever attending Columbia, and he refused to discuss the issue, what would you conclude?
Whose responsibility is it to prove attendance or non-attendance sat Columbia?
