A Haitian judge has decided to release 10 U.S. missionaries accused of kidnapping 33 children and trying to spirit them out of the earthquake-stricken country, a judicial source told Reuters Wednesday.
However, NBC News reported that no final decision had been made, though it's possible a decision could be made as early as Thursday. A lawyer representing one told The Associated Press he expects Judge Bernard Saint-Vil to issue his recommendation to the prosecutor Thursday.
The prosecutor has the right to appeal if the judge recommends that charges be dropped, but the judge has the final say. ..."

I would not doubt that they were very abused.
I read something last night about pilots refusing to fly out orphans because of this case and the concern regarding legitimate paperwork. This is indeed a sad case for the harm to the orphans in the long term.
It is all on how much is paid the officials . Can you imagine the ransom now being paid to the judge. This is such a joke.
The corruption here is palpable. We need to leave this cess pool for the French.
Well this is certainly looks like good news for those folks. Hope it turns out o.k. tomorrow.
May we give you money stolen from Americans forever?
We may?
Thank you. Thank you so much.
I understand their point
The Haitian Government is very, very sensitive to the baby selling trade — many times that trade leads to what is essentially slavery.
They may be somewhat powerless, but I can also see their concern spike with the crisis at hand. As with the missionaries, I honestly think their hearts are in the right place.
I am sure that, now the smoke has settled, the judges will release the Missionaries and I think this does make their point: “We are not totally lawless.”
*prepares for incoming*
Thanks for posting this headline! Heard it on Fox earlier.
Now, let’s see everyone who wanted these Americans or at least one of them to suffer in Haitian prison...come on and post on THIS thread.
I am sure we will someday hear horror stories about what happened to those women kept in those cages while 7000 convicts who escaped prison are roaming around.
Oh and meant to say - prayers need to continue until these people are home safe and sound!!!
>>I am sure we will someday hear horror stories about what happened to those women kept in those cages while 7000 convicts who escaped prison are roaming around.<<
You misunderstand my point. When all hell is breaking loose, you look to control those things you can. What can the judges do to capture the 7000 convicts?
This is about mustering what dignity they can. It may be a bit sad and pathetic, but at least they have a poit of view that should be understood.
>> I think this does make their point: “We are not totally lawless.”
It’s a great point, but how much in reality centered around it.
I wager much of the initial delays to Haiti and the frustrations with this case can be attributed to the bureaucracy of international protocol.
so if those 10 women were brutally gang raped by the guards while there, so what? its all about Haiti getting its national dignity back?
America was first on the scene, first on rescue and first in amount of aid. Returning aid workers have spoken about the anti-Americanism mentality rampant in the UN personnel in Haiti. This arrest was politically inspired to, as usual, portray Americans as nasty evil white people. We should demand a world-class apology from Haiti leadership.
Mefiez-vous les blancs
My point is I see their point.
That’s all.
Do you have a dog in this fight?
The ‘Texas Baptist Men’ leave for Haiti tomorrow father of my sis-in-law will be with them.
Perhaps they were also concerned that, if they let this go, other, not-so sincere people would attempt to take kids out of the country under the guise of helping them.
>>The Texas Baptist Men leave for Haiti tomorrow father of my sis-in-law will be with them.<<
Well, that is indeed a dog in this fight.
Seeing things from the Haitian perspective (or an attempt thereof) might be helpful for their mission. Just a thought — take it for what it is worth.
God bless them and prayers for your SIL’s (anbd of course the group’s) health and safety.
I meant Your SIL’s dad. Prayers nonetheless.
