Republican hopes rise in California

SAN FRANCISCO

Political speculation swirls. Meg Whitman, billionaire former eBay CEO and leading candidate for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in California, supposedly prefers not to run in tandem with Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, who is seeking the Republican Senate nomination to run against the three-term Democrat Barbara Boxer.

Fiorina, who advised John McCain's presidential campaign, was mentioned as his possible running mate. Whitman supposedly thinks two female former tech tycoons on the ticket would be one too many. Furthermore, Whitman supposedly harbors national ambitions, perhaps as 2012 vice presidential running mate with Mitt Romney, her business mentor and current supporter. If in 2012 Gov. Whitman is wallowing in this state's multiplying disasters, she might not want Fiorina in Washington surrounded by television cameras and unencumbered by executive responsibilities.

So Whitman supposedly persuaded a rival for the gubernatorial nomination -- Tom Campbell, a former congressman of large talents but slender means -- to switch to the Senate race, leaving her opposed only by Steve Poizner, another rich refugee from Silicon Valley. This may have been a bit too clever because Poizner can now make this a binary choice: Who is most conservative?

A Romney/Whitman ticket is the pipe dream of the Beltway RINO crowd and nobody else. Every winning Republican ticket has had to include a conservative paired with a RINO. The last successful exception to this rule was the Eisenhower-Nixon tickets of 1952 and 1956. But even then, Nixon was running as a conservative.

The one thing I can say for both Romney and Whitman is that they were successful CEO's, unlike Fiorna, who was an affirmative action hire for HP. What slogan is she going to run on? "Not Quite as Dumb as Barbara Boxer"?

I assume the people still have a vote, unlike the rigged 2008 NH primary.

As far as I am concerned NH and Iowa primaries mean nothing at all.

What is this? Soon we are going to have either RINOS or PaulBots as Govs of our states? That’s like voting for liberals. Change, what change? This is not what we want and these people know it.

Watch who your Sec of States are.

This woman is delusional. If, God forbid, Mitt Romney somehow can buy himself the presidential nomination despite his lack of appeal among conservatives, there is no way that he’d be stupid enough to choose as his VP candidate someone well to the left of him.

Meg Whitman's campaign guru donated max to Obama -- while she advised McCain
"Even as former eBay CEO Meg Whitman acted as a high-profile backer and adviser to 2008
GOP presidential candidate John McCain, her top aide Henry Gomez -- now an eMeg
gubernatorial campaign majordomo -- donated the maximum to Democrat Barack Obama,
federal records show. Gomez, a trusted top insider in Republican Whitman's 2010 gubernatorial
campaign, donated the maximum $2,300 allowed to the general election campaign of Obama
in the days before -- and the weeks following -- the former eBay CEO's high profile televised
address to the GOP National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he accompanied Whitman around the..."

If the RINOs win in California, there will be one upside. Since an R won in this blue state, the Dems won’t be able to take California for granted in 2012. They will have to spend time and money there to try to keep the electoral votes. They will be spread really thin.

There will probably be 200 solid electoral votes in red states where the Republican candidate and the GOP will spend very little time and money. Just appearances with state GOP candidates to help their campaigns.

I am not a big fan of any current announced candidates but the incentive to vote just is not there.

It does not matter, the 2 party system in California is ‘Null and Void’ as long as a doped-up liberally educated populace votes.. and party leaders on both sides, at least as doped-up, run things into the ground.
