A Massachusetts man is under arrest for the stash of guns police found in his possession.

Authorities took Gregory Girard, 45, into custody Wednesday afternoon on weapons charges after apparently finding dozens of guns inside his Manchester-by-the-Sea home.

A judge in Salem District Court ordered Girard held for evaluation.

The arsenal included close to 20 weapons, including rifles, two handguns, two bayonet knives, flare guns, six pairs of handcuffs, as well as a pair of both kevlar vests and helmets.

Tear gas and pepper spray grenades were also allegedly discovered at Girard’s residence.

All the items were acquired by Girard within the last nine months, according to police.

“He was convinced that martial law was imminent,” said a prosecutor on Wednesday.

Here's the link to the Boston Herald article. The guy had permits for some of the stuff but apparently not all. Love the quaintness of Mass. law: he's being held to determine his "dangerousness" and he's accused of having some "infernal devices."

>I>"You have to register every individual gun in MA."

That is news to me. Do you have a MA law citation for that?

One time on Mythbusters, they made a cannon out of duct tape. I have LOTS of duct tape.

"Is any of that stuff illegal?"

No. The police had no cause to bring him in. But you know what? The people of Mass. can have the leisure time to worry about things like this because they aren't like Southern California (yet). After they get a good dose of the hood, they'll be hammering nails into bats and wearing football helmets. Just give them time to wake up.

There also might be some answers in this previous long thread here:

I wish the journalists would dig deeper on this story, as there are so many questions.

Here in Massachusetts, any firearm that isn’t on the “approved” list by the Executive Office of Public Safety may not be sold in the Bay State. Here’s the list (sorry if I didn’t post this link correctly):

www.mass.gov/?pageID=eopssubtopic&L=4&L0=Home&L1=Firearms+Registration+%26+Laws&L2=Firearms+Support+Services&L3=Approved+Weapons+Rosters&sid=Eeops

Please note the glaring omissions on this list. You won’t find Colt, for example. Friggin COLT!! And I’m a big fan of the Kimber .45, which also isn’t there.

And it is also an offense to have firearms that are not properly secured, e.g. locked in a steel case. I’m not sure if they can pull a search warrant for that one but I would hate to find out. People have been arrested for failure to have their firearms secured, FWIW.

When the news first broke, I seem to recall he was arrested for having explosive devices, which would probably be the tear gas and/or pepper spray grenades. If you can’t buy a Colt in the Commonwealth, wanna guess what they think of tear gas grenades?

When the news first broke, I believe he was also charged with possession of four police riot batons. No clue about that one, but it wouldn’t surprise me in this silly-ass state.

Q. What kind of man will a psychiatrist marry?

A. A man who is a little slow: easier to control to some extents

Q. What will happen to the general intelligence level of a man married to a psychiatrist.

A. It would be easier for the man to embrace continuing education for the purpose of developing his skills at “playing dumb.”

Result: crazy house, no real, whole family. The man will escape in any way that he can.

"...dozens of guns inside...The arsenal included close to 20 weapons,..."

And BTW, that piece of reporting was brought us either by a girl or by a lilting, limp-wristed boy.

My car has 120 MPH on the speedometer. The speed limit in MA is 70 on the interstate. Are they coming for me next? How many guns are two many? How many weapons constitute an arsenal?

The libs pollute words to serve their own purposes. Exactly what is an assault weapon? It differs from any other semi-automatic weapon only in appearance and perhaps in the number of rounds in the clip. We can all remember when gay was a word that meant happy. Now show me one “gay” that is happy and not angry with the whole world. Yep, they polluted the hell out of that word. Now they are working on arsenal.

"He’s being held for “evaluation.” We’re all going to be “evaluated” someday."

It worked for the Russians. Uh....

for a while.

One good thing we have working for our side is....the leftists never can manage to come up with anything new and/or original. They'll always use the same ole tired and overused methods of their long-dead, past commie heroes. We not only see them coming, we've already got them in our sights.

You wouldn’t believe the draconian laws on fire arms in MA.

The state were odumos buddy Gov. Doverylittle Patrick, wants to put tracking chips in our cars to tax us on our driving. So on top of gas tax we pay in any state we drive through, we would be taxed in MA even if driving outside the state. What else can it do? Tells the govt. were your car is at all times. They can figure out if you traveled from point A to Point B in less time than the allowed speed limits, you would a ticket in the mail. With not one police officer ever seeing you do it.
