If we had real leaders who had a spine the Democrats could pass whatever Health care bill they wanted via reconciliation; it would all be undone via repeal. But like FDR knew when he got SSI pushed through, once the people get a taste of their new entitlement no one will have the will to take away the entitlement…no matter how destructive it will be to the country.
The only chance we have of repealing it is that the actual benefits don’t kick in until after the 2012 election. The experience all the voters will have before the election is “my taxes went up and I have nothing to show for it”. A successful Republican platform will include “My very first act as President will be to repeal this monstrosity and refund this money to the People”
Actually, benefits don’t kick in until 2013, I believe. But taxes will go up immediately. It is interesting that President Obama isn’t clear what he is planning on doing with the money in the meantime.....
