Wedding Bells, Not Retirement for Brown-Waite
Congressional Quarterly ^ | February 19, 2010 | John McArdle

Posted on 02/20/2010 2:09:11 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

After stirring up retirement speculation via a cryptic press release Thursday evening, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's (R-Fla.) "major announcement" Friday night was that she is running for re-election, and that she is getting married in the next few months.

The marriage will be Brown-Waite's second. The Congresswoman lost her first husband, Harvey, in 2008 after a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. The two had been married 30 years and he passed away less than three months shy of Brown-Waite winning her fourth term.

Last year the Congresswoman became engaged to businessman Anthony Selvaggio, who is part of a classic car organization that Harvey Waite also belonged to. Brown-Waite moved in with Selvaggio last summer, according to reports in Florida papers.

This is one of the funniest announcements. Reporters from FL showed up to watch her announce her retirement and left disgusted when she said she was running. I was laughing at this last night when I heard what had happened.

Ginny Brown-Waite deserves all the happiness as she went through a long struggle with her husband’s cancer who died about two years ago.

This may go down as my favorite announcement because the media blew it!

I’ve heard Jason Sager speak. He is Jeffersonia Republican and has some great conservative ideas.

I wish her well in her marriage. Shame that she didn’t take the opportunity to retire.

Well, she didn’t do it back when we expected her to do so, but RINOish Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite finally announced her retirement: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/house/florida-republican-rep-ginny-b.html?wprss=thefix

She did so minutes before the filing deadline, thus preventing the Democratscfrom recruiting someone to run for the open seat. She also got Hernando County Sheriff Richard Nugent to run for the GOP.

I hope that Nugent is a conservative.

There is a Tea Party candidate already running. Hopefully, he’ll win the primary.

I’d be miffed if a democrat pulled something like this.

The only rat in the race is Jim Piccillo, nobody and former RINO.

If other Florida news one Randy Wilkinson, Republican Polk county commissioner is running as a third party “Tea Party” candidate rather than trying for the GOP nod, because he was dropped on his head as baby.

Polk County is a hole, and isn’t even in the 5th.

I failed to specify the “Tea Party” guy is running in the 12th, Putnam’s open seat.

Oh, no, Hernando County Sheriff Richard Nugent has a mustache!

Thank God, the seat is safely Republican in 2010. : )
