Scott Browns astounding fund-raising - $14.2 million in 19 days - during the stretch run of last months special Senate campaign was fueled in large part by small donors.
A summary report of Browns fund-raising shows that nearly $7.9 million of the $13.9 million donated by individuals came from donors who gave him $200 or less. Thats 56.6 percent of the total from individuals (another $300,000 came from party or political action committees).
The full report, which runs more than 4,000 pages and will detail specific donors who gave more than $200, will not be available to the public on the Internet until next week, according to the Federal Election Commission. Browns campaign reported $6 million in itemized contributions from individuals who gave between $201 and the maximum $2,400. Candidates are not required to itemize donations of $200 or less in their reports.
In releasing the summary pages, Browns campaign said 154,431 donors gave an average of $86.08.
Contributions poured into the Brown campaign from all over the country, mostly via the Internet, as independent polls indicated Brown was closing in on Attorney General Martha Coakley, a Democrat. Browns fund-raising was reminiscent of the type that propelled Barack Obama to the White House in the 2008 presidential election.
As of Feb. 8, the end of the latest reporting period, the Brown campaign reported unspent cash on hand of a little more than $6 million. After paying $158,514 in debts or obligations, that would have left the campaign with nearly $5.9 million that can be used toward Browns reelection campaign in 2012.

I’m in that bunch. I first sent him $50, then I sent him another $25, just in case he needed it.
Btw, I got a thank you note from his campaign this past week. In the mail, not online.
:)
Oh and one other thing....forget the polls. Those numbers that you posted via the Globe should be the ones that scare the living dog crap out of Democrats, and no others.
The idea that he was able to raise that kind of people from little peons like me, in this kind of lousy economy, just to stop Obamacare (in our own small way) is really all they need to know.
And what we did for Brown, we can do for JD and beat McCain out of our hair for good!
After all, there was Mitt on stage with Sen. Brown on election night.
Although Mitt Romneycare was never been seen around Massachusetts during the campaign,
and although Mitt Romneycare only came in after the widely-public campaign which gave $14,9000,000,
despite Basra, despite Waziristan, the most dangerous
place to be THAT night on Earth was between Mr. Romneycare and any TV videocam.
Fastforward: Two weeks after the election, when the Zeig lights faded
the truth finally came out
DING. DING. DING.===>>> McCain actually gave more to Sen Brown but did not hog the Kleig lights.
I have to give you fair warning someday when you have your tray table down and your seat back during takeoff the Romney Vulcan Deathgrip will strike.
Not that long ago, Michael Steele claimed that the RNC made a substantial contribution to the Brown campaign at a strategic point in that campaign. I’d be interested in finding out when and how much since Mr. Steele refused to reveal those facts when he made the claim.
I have no idea of the amount of that contribution that Mr. Steele referred to, but I’d bet money it was AFTER the “money bomb”.
Listing on Drudge report stated that Brown voted for the jobs bill, can anyone comment on that?
I donated and I received the thank you letter too.
I was impressed that it came snail mail.
I also got a thank-you note from his campaign for my $25 contribution.
I'm a grownup and can put up with a RINO from Massachusetts; Brown is probably the best we can expect to elect there. I don't know why we have to put up with one from Arizona, however, and will probably be pulling out the checkbook for a similar small donation to Hayworth in the upcoming days.
Your post is important. If you don’t mind too much, please allow me to add to it:
While not taking credit in any way, I was the turkey who posted the S. Brown Cosmo semi-nude pics here in mid-December. In order to draw attention to his race. The moderators here are owed a debt of gratitude, as they allowed the somewhat racy post to stay up, as it was not in character for FreeRepublic to post male sexy pics. But to their credit, in their wisdom, they left the post up. It allowed a bunch of us to get together (in fun!) to see what we could do, just in case this Democratic train could be stopped. It elicited phone volunteers, in person volunteers coming in from out of town, and financial help.
But we held NO illusions here. We had to fight the hard core pro-lifers (and I am pro-life, btw) to help someone who would be with us 75% of the time on most things...in order to eliminate someone who would be against us 100% of the time on EVERYTHING. Not just abortion, but national security, taxes, and all the rest.
That is pragmatism vs. dogmatism.
I know there are going to be times in the next two years in which I would like to toss Scott Brown out my front window, over a vote he makes. But my point was, to slow down the Obamacare Express...BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. And so it was for so many others around here.
But most of the time, I suspect he will do the right thing.
And I agree with you about JD Hayworth. I always liked him. He’s another one I’ll have to scrape up a donation for. However, I’m going to give you my prediction, in case JD wins. McCain will not give up power this easily. You watch, he’ll run as an Independent, just like Joe Lieberman.
