Affirmative action hire, carry a long, all his life. The Bush’s like him. Light skinned, smooth, political.

I sure did. You see Powell was precursor to Obama. He was the original invented man. Powell didn't have a particularly distinguished career before he was picked out for jobs in the Reagan administration. He was selected because he made friends with a lot of the movers and shakers within both the Reagan and Bush(HW) administrations. Remember once how a lot of people were touting him for president? Preposterous! Yes many people(clowns) were touting him for president even though they didn't have a clue how he stood on the issues of the day. And remember these idiots(and I called a number of them just that to their faces) were Republicans. It was a victory of hype over substance.

No Colin Powell was an affirmative action baby from the get go. Without it he wouldn't have made it past Colonel. But at that time Reagan/Bush needed people who looked like him and he was catapulted into a Job like the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff even though there were more than 20 Army Officers ahead of him in rank and seniority. And it wasn't the Army's turn in the rotation of this job if I remember correctly. It was the Air Force's turn.

No if you could get Generals and others to talk you would find that Powell was a mediocre Military Officer from the start. He was always more political than military.

I wasn't surprised that Powell backed Obama. In fact I'd have been surprised if he didn't. He needed street cred in his social circle. Standing up for principle was never a strong suit for Colin Powell. Let's let him fade away as a real soldier once said.

“No regrets” either about not just getting on a helicopter and flying 10 minutes down to My Lai so he might see first hand, rather then sitting down to type up the drivel as he did for the Americal Division commander from his air conditioned hooch in Chu Lai.

He should have been kicked out of the Army for Dereliction of Duty.
