CPAC organizers hit back at Huckabee (Actually, I think Huckabee nails it).

Washington (CNN) - The organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference are hitting back at former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who argued over the weekend that the annual convention's influence among conservatives is waning.

CPAC is becoming "increasingly libertarian and less Republican," Huckabee told Fox News on Saturday, one reason he said he decided not to attend this year....

I'm no Huckabee backer (as his backers at FR will surely tell you), but I have to agree with Huckabee. I think he hit is spot-on; CPAC has become a Libertarian gathering, where Social Issues, Cultural Issues, and Moral Issues are either not mentioned at all or barely mentioned.

It has essentially become a means for every aspiring Republican supporterd by the establishment to be associated with Conservatism.

You would scarcely have known from CPAC that Conservatives support traditional marriage, the right to life, and religious freedom.

The GOP has done a great job reshaping CPAC into its own image. You gotta give 'em props for taking out a once-great foe. CPAC has become the Social Libertarian, lower taxes entity that the establishment GOP has long wanted the Republican Party and Conservative movement to be.

Any group that supports a total loony like ru paul to the tune of 30% or so is collectively nuts.

Sorry, George, Sarah and Glenn — you need to do more work vetting your speaking engagements.

Okay, you’re claiming the GOP has invited Libertarians into the Big Tent? You will need to document that.

The Tea Party movement was started by Ron Paul. The Tea Partiers, who identify themselves more as conservative than Republican, have welcomed and embraced the Paul-bots among them.

So, how does that amount to the GOP itself being pro-Libertarian?

CPAC is just as imperfect as it was a year ago, except there's a much bigger crowd.

I just view this org as part of the many in our movement which will do a few things I disagree with, but will help knock out the progressives.

With all the big government types that abound there including the Huckster, it’s hardly libertarian. And the establishment GOP is anything but small government. Nice try, though.

Huckabee... Conservative?!?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

If anything, he’s just a religious liberal. There isn’t an iota of difference on how he wants to see the government used... just a difference on when and why.

I haven’t noticed this part. Am I missing something.

Sorry, George, Sarah and Glenn — you need to do more work vetting your speaking engagements.

And you might want to re-vet your facts.

Sarah was not there, she did her homework.

I thought she spoke.

I stand corrected (happily so! — good instincts there, Sarah).

“cpac is for liberals and LIBertarians... and faggots.”

My hopes for taking over Congress in the next election are starting to dim.

They always lower taxes; it’s SPENDING they can’t seem to bring themselves to cut.

It is the new paulbot meme. It is unsubstantiated and just plain silly. Ignore it.

Agreed. cpac was just downright weird — and many independents will see the GOP equally wierd.
