PHOENIX Nearly half of the Arizona Legislature wants to force President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate to state officials if he runs for re-election.
A state House committee on Tuesday approved the measure sponsored by 40 of the state's 90 legislators. It would require presidential candidates who want to appear on the ballot in Arizona to submit documents proving they meet the requirements to be president.

Some employers use E-verify, to make sure they’re not hiring illegal aliens....
This ought to be a no-brainer. Every state in the union should pass a law like this.
It will never pass. The legislators are too cowardly. Even if it passed a federal court would strike it down, probably on 14th Amendment grounds.
We already have the trump law on the books (The Constitution) and a lot of good that has done us.
I can’t believe the Associated Press is bringing this to light. The birth issue is going mainstream all the sudden since McCain attacked J.D. Hayworth in Arizona yesterday over wanting Obama to show his Birth Certificate. I knew this would backfire on McCain if he brought this up and sure nuff as I stated in another post that the focus would shift to Obama. The Associated Press is taking off with this because they have no choice since the Arizona legislature did this.
I guess the Democrats are going to say now that the whole State of Arizona is now a total birther state.
I had to provide my birth certificate to be hired by a bank in Arizona. If Obama doesn’t comply, can I sue for racism?
I agree
The MSM New York Times just published it on their website and paper for tommorrow. This will be big as word gets out. This is not what Obama wants right before the Health debate Thursday. MSNBCs Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann will be in tatters tommorrow.
This needs to be passed in every state. The approach is to ignore BHO for his current term and just say that it is a reasonable request of all candidates in the future.
It’ll only take one state...
Pass this thing. THis SOB will have to retire.
Yep, but I want to see it passed in many more, just to drive the point home
Don’t be so sure that it won’t get passed. The AZ legislature is Pubbie-controlled and pretty conservative at that.
And if a higher court strikes it down, so be it. Fear of (unconstitutional) reversal is no reason not to pass the law.
Full speed ahead!
“Full speed ahead!”
I agree. Even if they fight it and take it to court it will only add to the people’s doubt and end up backfiring on them. Why would he fight something that would be so easy to put to rest by simply showing a document that most other citizens have to show for much less important reasons?
What matters is that thanks to the Arizona Legislature every single msm news agency and papers around the country in the last 2 hrs have picked this story up. This is huge and viral.
You bet your sweet bippie it matters.
AP has it too.

If as Comrade Obama Jr claims his dad was Barak Hussein Obama Sr, of Kenya,
than it's not possible for Junior to be a Natural Born Citizen of the U.S.
At the time of the drafting and ratification of the United States constitution,
the definition of natural born citizen, combined both the principles of jus soli and jus sanguinis.
The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.
As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.
