RPV Chairman Pat Mullins issued the following statement:
"Democrat Rick Boucher left Abingdon for Washington, D.C. 27 years ago. He's been gone so long that he's forgotten what Southwest Virginia is all about," Mullins said. "He's become more accustomed to working with those in Washington than working for the folks in the 9th District."
That's why the Republican Party of Virginia has launched RetireRick.com, a website that will act as clearing house for information and other resources for people in Southwest Virginia who think the time has come for Rick Boucher to come home.
"It's been a long, slow creep, but Rick really went off the rails starting in 2008. Since the election of President Obama, Rick has done almost anything the leader of his Party has needed him to do, including voting for a Cap and Trade bill which would severely cost the people of the 9th district." he said.
"It didn't matter what the bill was, Rick Boucher was right there for his buddy Barack. When General Motors and Chrysler came to Congress with hat in hand, Rick was right there with President Obama to write them a check," he said. "And when President Obama needed to raise the government's credit limit to run up another $1 trillion dollar deficit, Rick couldn't stand up fast enough to pile more debt onto the backs of our children and grandchildren."
"Worst of all, when President Obama and Nancy Pelosi needed help killing coal jobs and 'skyrocketing' electric bills, Rick didn't stand and fight for his constituents - he joined right in, helping to write the job-killing monstrosity that is cap and trade," Mullins said. "Southwest Virginia needed its man in Washington to stand and fight, and Rick Boucher was nowhere to be found."
"Come on home, Rick," Mullins said. "We know after a few months outside the beltway you'll remember what being from Southwest Virginia is all about."

NRA endorses Boucher for 9th District election
Morgan Griffith, a likely opponent, touted his own NRA “A” rating and his support for gun rights.

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has endorsed U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, for re-election.
The endorsement comes with an “A” rating based on Boucher’s voting record on matters of guns and the Second Amendment.
“I am pleased to again have the endorsement of the NRA” Boucher said in a news release. “Throughout my service in Congress, I have strongly supported gun owners’ rights and have worked closely with the NRA and sportsmen in Southwest Virginia to ensure that those rights are protected.”
The endorsement comes at the start of what could be Boucher’s toughest campaign since 1984.
Virginia House Majority Leader Del. Morgan Griffith, R-Salem, filed paperwork Tuesday that moved him closer to a formal declaration of his candidacy in the 9th Congressional District.
Griffith congratulated Boucher on the endorsement but questioned his commitment to Democratic leadership that has received much lower NRA ratings.
“The NRA has endorsed Congressman Boucher based on specific votes he has taken in Washington on issues of importance to sportsmen and gun owners,” Griffith said. “There is, however, one vote taken at the beginning of each Congress that the group does not compute into its ratings. And on that vote, for speaker of the house, he has been placing in a position of power Nancy Pelosi, who clearly does not have a commitment to protecting the Second Amendment rights of Americans.
“I commit to the voters of the 9th District, I will never vote for a speaker of the house who does not share my strong support for the Second Amendment.”
Griffith also touted the consistent “A” rating he’s received from the NRA during his tenure in the House of Delegates.
Griffith must file by March 1 to run as a GOP candidate.
So far, five other people have filed as candidates for the GOP nomination: Adam Light and David Moore of Tazewell County, Jessee Ring of Pulaski County, Brandon Roop of Blacksburg and William Carr of Patrick County. The nomination will be decided at a May 22 convention.
Jeremiah Heaton of Washington County is running as an independent.
