Candy, soda, Amazon purchases and select software will now be taxed after Gov. Bill Ritter yesterday signed into law a group of controversial bills that will suspend or eliminate a series of tax credits and exemptions.

Ritter’s signature caps a month-long legislative process that pitted Republicans vs. Democrats in a heated and often bitter partisan battle. Republicans have consistently positioned the nine bills as business-killing measures, while Democrats say they are showing the leadership that’s necessary in the worst fiscal environment since the Great Depression. The nine bills are expected to generate $15.6 million in revenue this fiscal year and $132.6 million next fiscal year.

Since these bills seem to be prohibited by the Constitutions of both Colorado and the U.S., it is expected that these bills will now go from the Governor's desk to the courts. Read more here:

The majority of Supreme Court Justices in CO were appionted by Liberal governors and are Liberal justices. The Constitution doesn’t exist for them.

Odds are they will uphold this.

Well, guess what. I won’t be buying from amazon anymore if I’m going to be taxed. I’ll shop somewhere else. Democrats are idiots. Don’t they ever get a clue, the American people have had it with there tax and spend and tax some more. It’ll be garage sales and ebay for me.

Jeez. They are even taxing the children now. When I was a kid candy was too cheap to tax. It only cost a penny. Yes I am that old.

The court challenges will presumably not occur until next year—and then only if 1) the supremes subject to retention votes this November are removed and 2) the Republicans win the governor's race and replacements can be appointed. There is a huge effort underway for the former (www.clearthebenchcolorado.com).

Won't do much good. The rotten liberal communists RATS will expand it to all purchases even food. The are so filthy rotten hungry to convert us in to slaves of the State that soon we will have such limited freedom that America will erupt in a bloody civil war.

I look forward to seeing the elections in nov. If we can just hold out that long, I think we will see a change back to more responsible taxing and spending and less government, please God, let it be.

This is what happens when Democrats take over. They came to power in Colorado last November, running both the governor's office and the general assembly, and the FIRST thing they did was try to overturn the TABOR amendment (Coloradoans know what this is). Now this.

This vote was right down party lines. If Republicans had been running things, the bill would never even have been introduced. I don't EVER want to hear again that Republicans are as bad as Democrats. It's demonstrably false. Just take a look at Colorado.

This is supposed to generate 15.6 million dollars. When has the revenue ever matched the expectations. The more predictable result is a diminishing of revenue collected. The inclusion of Yahoo specifically should be considered unconstitutional or at least illegal. Without fail every time this approach is used it has the opposite effect as that which is intended.

I will definitely reconsider renewing my Amazon Prime membership over this. And I will probably curtail a lot of my purchases there.

Stupid democrats.
