LATE NIGHT GOP WARS: Letterman Pits Mitt Romney Against Leno's Sarah Palin
The Deadline ^ | 2/25/10 | staff

Posted on 02/25/2010 7:09:51 PM PST by pissant

Jay Leno made news when he announced that Sarah Palin will be among his high-profile guests when he returns to The Tonight Show next week (aka "The Jaysurrection"). Now David Letterman's lineup for next week pits Mitt Romney against Sarah Palin on Tuesday night -- and the ratings may well provide clues on which probable GOP presidential contender may be most popular. The week's lineup for Letterman's Late Show are: MONDAY, Bill Murray; TUESDAY, Mitt Romney; WEDNESDAY, Jerry Seinfeld and Tom Brokaw; THURSDAY, Tom Hanks; and FRIDAY, Matt Damon. Leno's first week of guests are: MONDAY, Jamie Foxx, Olympic Gold Medal Skier Lindsey Vonn; TUESDAY, Sarah Palin, Olympic Gold Medal Snowboarder Shaun White; WEDNESDAY, "Jaywalk All-Stars” with the Cast of MTV's Jersey Shore, Chelsea Handler, and the most decorated American Winter Olympian of all time Speed Skater Apolo Anton Ohno; THURSDAY, Matthew McConaughey and Jason Reitman; FRIDAY, Morgan Freeman and Meredith Vieira.

While I’m not a huge Mitt fan, and consider MittCare to be an obomination, I don’t loath him like I do most donks. That’s why I have to ask, WTF are you thinking, Mitt? I thought you were more politically astute. This is going to be a Gozdila sized Epic Fail!

ROFL. Never thought of Mitt as Richard Simmons before. Richard Simmons has more depth of personality.

I don't like either host. So I'll support Palin and watch Craig Ferguson like I usually do.

You just know Letterman and Romney will talk about Sarah.
Letterman will ask Romney some questions about her and he might be dumb enough to make some snide comments to see if Romney laughs.

He must have been surprised by the 20 something turnout at CPAC. Ron Paul probably won’t run so there are votes there for grabs. I used to like Letterman decades ago but now much prefer Leno. The kids like Conan I hear but also Letterman.

Leno having political conservatives on for a couple of weeks(or longer) would smash Lettermans ratings..

"Jay Leno made news when he announced that Sarah Palin will be among his high-profile guests when he returns to The Tonight Show next week (aka "The Jaysurrection"). Now David Letterman's lineup for next week pits Mitt Romney against Sarah Palin on Tuesday night -- and the ratings may well provide clues on which probable GOP presidential contender may be most popular.

I don't usually get into these posts about what movie and TV personalities are doing, but I did want to say one thing about the opening premise.

For the past several months, the "Tonight Show/Leno" on again - off again battle has pretty much left a lot of folks confused. While I would watch the Tonight Show, with Leno, occasionally (haven't watched it regularly since Johnny Carson retired) - depending on his scheduled guests - I never watched his earlier version, "The Jay Leno Show", at all.

I haven't watched Letterman in years - he's a left-wing smartass bottom feeder.

If I had only two choices, say between Letterman and Conan...I'd grit my teeth and watch Letterman.

Now, having said all that, there are a lot of people don't really keep up with all this tinsel town fluff, but may not know that Leno was coming back (for sure) to the Tonight Show, therefore to use the ratings of the two simultaneous show as a popularity poll between Palin and Romney, is a fluke.

These shows are usually viewed by younger, and more "progressively liberal" audiences, as the conservatives have all gone to bed, as they have to get up and go to work to pay the taxes for those who don't work and sit up and watch late night television....ahem.

A lot of conservatives will probably DVR the Tonight Show to see Sarah Palin, as will I - but there is no accounting for DVRing so the numbers will still be skewed.

As far as RINO Romney goes, the proof will be at the polls in 2012; being butt buddies with Scott Brown does not put Romney in the catbird seat for the Oval Office.

Of course, the lib media will skew the numbers seven ways from Sunday to make them say what they want them to say, but then...who watches lib media anymore?

The lib media always uses any "poll" that supports their side, and their side only.

/rant
