AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry has bragged this week about making fundraising history by bringing in a record $1.3 million in one day, intimating that it came from tapping grassroots support. It turns out that the money mostly came from those who own the field.
Only 43 donors provided the first $1 million, and the total $1.28 million was netted from just 123 givers, including lobbyists and long-time political players, reports filed with the Texas Ethics Commission showed Friday.
On Thursday, Perry announced the fundraising total in a press release, saying the "Money Cannon" had included "numerous Texans donating through the governor's website."
"I deeply appreciate the support I have received from Texans across the state," Perry said in the statement. "This unprecedented fundraising effort combined with our solid grassroots support affirms that our message of limited government, fiscal restraint and belief in the power of the individual is what Texans look for in their elected leaders."
The donors include some of the state's richest people, including tax consultant George Ryan and investor Stevan Hammond, both of Dallas, who both wrote checks for $100,000. Another $100,000 check was written by the North Cypress Medical Center group in Cypress.
Three oil and energy executives each gave $50,000 Rod Lewis of San Antonio, Lee Bass of Fort Worth and Jeffrey Hildebrand of Houston.

Worthless open borders RINO. Just keep the SOB in Texas if he wins, please.
Will she or won't she resign?....
Hutchison to stay in Senate up to seven or eight more months; shift from vow to resign after the primary, win or lose?
12:58 PM Fri, Feb 26, 2010
Todd J. Gillman/ReporterWith four days to go before the gubernatorial primary, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison this morning bought herself as many as eight more months in the Senate. Speaking on WBAP's Mark Davis Show, she said she plans to resign from the Senate "sometime this year before the November elections."
That's a rather significant amendment to her most recent public posture. In December, at a Republican gathering in Galveston, she said she would resign after the primary, win or lose. And she has repeated that privately to GOP donors and supporters......
Here's what she said in today's radio interview:
"I have said I am going to leave the Senate. It's the best thing for Texas for me to leave the Senate, sometime this year before the November elections. And I'm going to stay and fight health care. I promised that, so that's my first commitment and I will do that," Hutchison said.
When Davis asked about serving out her full term, which runs through the end of 2012, she unequivocally ruled that out.
"Oh no, not going to do that. It's not the best thing for Texas. I want to finish health care reform because it is going to affect every American. And I think I can be effective and fight this just like I did all of December. That's going to be the key. I'm going to do it. It's not good for my political career to kind of stay and fight because I've made the commitment to do it. ... After health care is over it will be much better for Texas to have a new Republican senator getting seniority, before the November elections and that's going to be the right thing for Texans."

Debra Medina: The choice of thirsty hamsters
February 26, 2010
Debra Medina: The choice of thirsty hamsters Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina is finally up on television just before the primary.
Well, Medina is not actually on the ad, but a hamster is.
The hamster runs on a wheel with the campaign logos of Medina's well-funded primary opponents, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry, cycling around on the exterior of the wheel. The hamster gets worn out from a combination of running and, apparently, "bailouts, forced vaccinations, the Trans-Texas Corridor."
The hamster then drinks from a water-bottle with Medina's campaign logo while the voiceover says that Medina is the "refreshing new choice" for Texans.

Perry campaign says Hutchison "lies" as "Earmark Queen"
According to Perry's Web site:"Earmark Queen" is performed by Stephanie Daulong, an Austin, Texas, resident who appeared on Season Nine of "American Idol," and is produced by Adam McInnis.
Lyrics to "Earmark Queen"
In Washington restraint is low Looking out for yourself we know Where they spend all the money Growing the debt You have become the Queen
Every Texan wonders why The things you say turn into lies Voting for the bailout why oh why? You're always flip-flopping And when it's time to vote
You are the Earmark Queen Spend and spend wasting our money Earmark Queen spend and spend From the Treasury oh no!
You can spend you can bailout Giving away all the cash Fund that pork waste money You are the Earmark Queen
What does that have to do with the article they published today? Are you saying it isn’t factual?
TXGOV ping list...........
It’s almost over or so it seems....
Nope. The article may be factual. I am commenting on the fact that DMN is not the light-bringer of truth that it once was.
I gave and I am not a big donor....
Well I donated at Perry’s website and I’m darn sure not a big ol’ lobby. The DMN is spam.
A “Money Cannon”! Awesome.... I want one of those!
Debra Medina was caught off guard by a preplanned and targeted question again Friday the 26th of February. Ironically the last day of early voting.
Not being well versed in the paper / plastic controversy a confused Medina left the grocery store mumbling and empty handed.
Later a Medina staffer blasted the obviously Perry supporting checkout clerk for asking an unprepared Medina such a question and demanded to know if she had asked any other candidates said question.
The clerk answered through tear filled eyes, Nobody else has ever had a problem with the question before........
All true.....Which puts her about 50 IQ points over Vaccine Perry
They finally realize that they can’t let her talk!
LOL!
