Dean Murray, Tea Party activist, has been elected to the New York state assembly!

According to Fox News:

The Tea Party followers can boast about their first elected official. Dean Murray, a 45-year-old Long Island, N.Y., businessman who organized Tea Party protests, will be sworn in as the new Republican state assemblyman representing Long Island's eastern 3rd Assembly District on Monday, after being certified the winner of a special election held last Tuesday.

Murray beat his Democratic opponent 51% to 49%, and is believed to be the first Tea Party organizer who has attained public office. The district had been in Democratic hands for the past 13 years.

This Assembly District is in NY’s 1st Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Tim Bishop. Tea Party Protests were held at his Town Halls last year, and they practically ran him off the Island.

Murray has one son, Tony, who is now serving in Afghanistan. He is a staff sergeant with the Air National Guard working as a crew chief for A-10 "Warthog" attack planes. "My son is in Afghanistan right now to preserve the freedoms we have," Murray said, adding that his election shows how democracy works when "a regular businessman" can run and win as he has. Nice!!!

It should be noted that this man ran as a REPUBLICAN, not as some type of third party. That is the proper way to do it...take over the Republicans from the INSIDE, rather than try to come in from the outside.

The system is rigged. In a 3-way race for a seat in the House (or for President, or Senate, for that matter), you only need to get more votes than the others...and that can (in theory, at least) be 34% of the vote. Which also means that if the Tea Party people divide the 55% or so of the country that will vote conservative...guess what, the Democrat wins.

We need to stay within the system, and we can win there. Florida is now showing that with Crist being told to TAKE A HIKE by Rubio. No need for Rubio to go 3rd party...instead he’s about to take down the person that the Republican Party Establishment had anointed...he beat them at their own game. That is how to do it.

I totally agree. A 3rd party is what gave us Clinton. A 3rd party took enough votes away from Norm Coleman in Minnesota to allow Franken to steal the election.

I agree that Perot certainly didn’t help the Republicans in 1992...but the Republicans do have to spend some time looking in the mirror to really understand what happened then.

As for Coleman...I don’t know enough, but it was so close that a gnat in a single voting location would have tossed it...so I agree.
