Personal experience. I hunted in Argentina on 4 separate occasions. Our firearms required a special permit stamped by the Argentinian consulate in the US and were inspected carefully on entering and leaving the country to ensure the serial numbers matched. Our host for the hunting trips stated that handgun ownership was nearly impossible and that long gun ownership required a 2 year waiting period.
