Updated (2): Leno Crushes Letterman in Return, In Adults 18-49 Too
tvbythenumbers ^ | 3/2/10 | Robert Seidman

Updated: in the local people meter markets Leno was twice as popular with adults 18-49, scoring a 2.0 rating vs a 1.0 rating for Letterman.

In the metered market houshold ratings between 11:30p-12:30a Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show dominated Leterman and Late Show. Leno had a 5.4/14 (household rating/share) to Letterman’s 3.0/8.

Sure, Leno’s first night back (and perhaps first week or two back) is likely inflated by a post-Olympic halo, but the early indication is “all is forgiven.”

CBS needs to retire old Dave and find someone who could compete better with Leno. Can’t wait to see the ratings after Sarah is on tonight, the last time she got Leno higher ratings than he’d had all in of 2009!

Although Letterboy was once kinda funny he’s “matured’ into a bitter old washed-up bum. And,as we’ve recently learned,a scumbag perv as well.Leno’s funny on occasion...even today.Neither of them have ever held...or will ever hold...a candle to Carson.

Leno also delivered I think 12 million viewers for his first night at the 10:00 time-slot. How long did that last? I suspect NBC (and by NBC, I mean Jeff Zucker) screwed the pooch with this whole fiasco, and Letterman (unfortunately) will quickly regain his recently gained title of "king of late night".

I just can't watch Leno anymore. My wife and I made it a ritual to always watch the monologue and on Mondays, the headlines bit, but after everything that's happened, I just can't make myself like him.

And I never could stand Eubanks' constant sexual references and comments. I hear he's gone now, though.

Amen to that. Carson, then Steve Allen were my two favorites, though Allen's show wasn't late night.

Hey, ho Steveareno...

For the most part, I like Leno, but I mainly watched to see Lindsey Vonn. Tonight, I will mainly watch to see Sarah Palin.

Letterman is gonna have Mitt Romney as his guest tonight to try to combat Sarah on Leno..LOL..I bet 20 bucks 90 percent of Letterman’s conversation with Mitt will be about Sarah Palin, or trying to get Romney to say something nasty about her.

Craig Ferguson is funnier than Leno and letterman and much more talented...the way he talks to the camera as though he was talking to me directly is extremely personal and effective...he even makes the first “comercial” break kind of funny...he’ll come to the end of his monoloque and look mournfully at the producers...then the audiences..”.oh its commercial time again” and pause... and pull one funny after another. Ferguson blows them all away!

Maybe. But I think Conan has a chance to take it. I know his kind of humor doesn't appeal to everyone, but if he goes to FOX, he'll have first access to many popular guests and that will draw more viewers.

And I think Conan is just a more likable person. His "cynicism is my least favorite quality" speech on the his last show was inspirational. I just don't see that kind of sentiment coming from Leno or Letterman.

Why do you think Leno is having Palin on again...he needs the ratings booster rocket she’ll provide!

Leno's ratings are no surprise.

Any time a new show comes out with a popular host, the ratings are sky high.

They will even out some, with Leno always beating Lettermann. (extra "n" in "honor" of Dave being like Olbermann)

What time is he on? I’d like to watch, just so Letterman feels the weight of us watching Palin.
