On the floor of the Senate, Republican Jim Bunning of Kentucky just defended the position he's taken that has delayed an extension of jobless benefits for the nation's unemployed and has forced the furlough of about 2,000 federal workers.
Saying that he has blocked votes on the legislation to underscore his opposition to the ongoing growth in federal debt, Bunning read a letter from "Robert in Louisville," who told the senator that even though he hasn't been working regularly in the past two years he supports what Bunning is doing.

Bunning is just doing what any of us would do if people were knocking on our door asking to take more of our money.
That’s Bunning’s job damnit.
Who can post that story about [was it Davy Crocket] the rep who thought he was a really good pol and when he was riding horseback thru his district he came upon a farmer who let him have it for spending others’ money....
Make Obamao spend some his slush money to extend unemployment benefits. At least that would help the country by cutting vote buying by job killing Democrats.
Senator Jim Bunning is a true American hero.
If this was as important to the ObaMao administration as, say, funding ACORN or stacking the census, there is two-thirds of the trillion dollar stimulus money authorized in the opening days of his administration which remains unspent.
Go, Jim, Go!
It’s just like Rush is saying:
WHERE ARE THE REPUBLICANS TO BACK THIS BRAVE MAN UP!
They are NOWHERE! Bunch of gutless wonder turds...
They could overrule him easily. He hasn’t stopped anyhting.
That too-short list currently includes Sen. Jon Kyl and Sen. John Cornyn.
They will. They need to milk it politically first.
It’s sad that a politician will only do the right thing when they decide to retire and know they don’t have to run again. That’s a commentary on voters btw, not politicians.
Bunning defends his position: I’m not running for re-election, so I can vote on principle now.
Alright, well that is at least some good news.
Thanks, I appreciate this, because I thought he was 100% alone at this time.
This is great. I love it when senators do this kind of thing. The American public has no problem philosophically with reducing federal employees’ benefits or getting rid of waste, etc., etc. — but when Congress as a whole or an individual member blocks funding like this, it results in such things as road projects grinding to a halt (such is the case with Bunning’s action and a vital bridge repair on the federally-owned George Washington Turnpike in northern Virginia), national parks closing, transportation workers’ absence delaying or cancelling commercial flights, etc. Then people get angry, contact their Congressman — and the obstacle is hastily removed. More importantly, no other boneheads attempt to do the same thing for a long time. Such was the case with the famous government shutdown of 1995-96. I loved every minute of that one, and I’m loving this one too.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. At last one good man refused to roll over!!!
You hit the nail on the head. I never even knew Bunning was a Senator from Tennessee until this moment. Better late than never. The Dems and the RINOs just want to buy time and buy off the American people from the reality that faces us all: We will sooner than later become the slaves of the PRC who owns most our debt. The more we get bought off with unemployment payola, the less inclined we will be to fight back over this bankruptcy facing us all. Jobs are the answer - not income redistribution.
Try Senator from Kentucky.
So, as I understand you correctly- you like this because; no one else will do this after Bunning?
