Nina Easton helped Romney with book (No fact checks by AP)
Politico ^ | Tuesday March 2, 2010 | Michael Calderone

Nina Easton, Fortune's Washington bureau chief and a Fox News regular, helped out Mitt Romney on his new book that hits shelves today, "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness." That's according to the book's acknowledgements, where Romney writes she "advised me on ways to make the message of what I had written more clear and compelling."

Should a political analyst and journalist be helping out a former (and future?) presidential candidate with his book? Boston Globe correspondent Sasha Issenberg reached out to Easton and looked at whether there's any conflict given her role as political analyst, along with the fact that her husband Russ Schrifer worked on Romney's campaign.

In an e-mail exchange yesterday, Easton said she was not paid for her work on the book. “Mitt asked me - as a friend and a book author myself - for some input on an early draft. I offered some writer’s advice on things like structure and how to better tease out themes in his writing. It wasn’t much,’’ Easton wrote.

Many news organizations have policies explicitly forbidding reporters and editors from offering any support for political figures or their campaigns. A spokesman for Time Inc., which owns Fortune, did not respond to a request for comment on Easton’s role.

UPDATE: A Fortune spokesperson tells POLITICO that they "take it seriously" and are "looking into it."

Helping out?

Should Wee Willie Ayers have written a book and allowed Obammie the Commie to put his name on it?

Should journalists in the state-run media be helping out the government push a communist agenda down America’s throat on a daily basis?

BTW Sarah Palin announced that she was going to have a ghost writer at the very beginning, then the media came out months later and made it as though it was hidden from the public and that Sarah was trying to hide the facts.......I was so mad at that! GRRRRRR!!

It’s fine, as long as there is full disclosure. Problem here is, Ms. Easton’s husband, was also a top campaign aide for Romney. A reality thay may well continue into 2012.

‘Should a political analyst and journalist be helping out a former (and future?) presidential candidate with his book?”

I dunno, should a terrorist be helping out a former presidential candidate who is currently in the White House with his book?

I don’t get it. Why shouldn’t she be able to do whatever she wants, for whoever she wants?

Romney has many Obama people “helping” him. They would be more than happy to help him get the Republican nomination, at which point they would drop him.
