it was all show for the incumbent, John Tierney. Facing a challenge from Republican Bill Hudak, Tierney initiated this “field hearing” in Gloucester to show that he is in touch with the folks back home.
The reality is that Tierney and Congress have been aware of the problems of the fishing industry in Gloucester since 2006 and have done nothing to ease the burden imposed upon the Gloucester fishermen by NOAA.
Millions of dollars in fines have been imposed on Gloucester’s fishermen, boats have been seized and many forced out of the fishing industry since 2006. Nothing substantial came of this meeting other than a media event for members of Congress who are feeling the heat from their constituents for congress’ inaction on this and other matters that are important to the American people.

Silly question. You don't think they'd devote these resources to investigating the NOAA people doing the junk climate change science costing us billions do you? Much better to harass a bunch of innocent, defenseless fisherman.
Mmmmmm...Grilled fish head. I hope they used plenty of mojito lime.
Some newspaper editors write the worst headlines.
I seriously doubt they have much security around them. Were I in their position I might be a bit more circumspect about screwing with people who fish for a living.
They just might find themselves in a chum bucket.
Fishery Enforcement Head Grilled At Hearing;
Why grill only his head?
How’s that change working out for you? You were employed and had a livelihood in 2008...2010 you probably won’t. That’s a change for ya.
