ALL local video stores including BB have or are already in the process of shutting down and closing their doors for good in my area of Florida. Taking their place in history next to the 8-track.

No tears here.

Blockbuster lost me when they hit me with a $39.99 ‘restocking fee’ on a movie that we’d returned. They neglected to check it in before they put it back on the shelf, and the manager of the store refused us an apology and a refund (offering only an in-store credit) when their error came to light.

The unfortunate thing about RedBox is you’re severely limited in your movie selection. Want a foreign film? A little more arcane selection? An old movie? Good luck with that.

You have to hope the Blockbusters and Netflix of the world hang around.

About ten years ago I went into the local BB and in order to rent a movie they wanted my SS# and a lot of other information. I said no and have not been back since.

Same here. I was going to pay cash last time I tried to rent at BB and they wanted a credit card number. I didn't have one, so I told them to forget it. I use netflix for DVDs and streaming. Block Buster, and all similar business models, is dead.

I think if Blockbuster comes up with a combination of limited stores, great old movies on the net (which they do and have) and their BlueBox for current movies, it could be a winner.

The BlueBox that I saw is located at a Sheetz Gas Station. Lots of them in our four/five state area.

I have no problem with BB stealing RB's model. The more competion the better.

One problem I have with RedBox. All the cooties (germs) on the container cover.
I clean them all with Windex as soon as I get home.

I would like to know if anyone else has seen one of the Blockbuster BlueBoxes around.
The one I see and will check out this week-end is in the Hershey, PA.

Anyone seen any?

I was thinking FReepers should just pull our money and get on this thing. It’s a winner.

Who has money over seas to borrow?.. I think you might be stupid. But you are right about the bankers.

This discourages me from renting there.

The no late fee thing had me continuing to patronize them.

I wouldn’t mind Netflix except I don’t like automatic charges on my credit card. I KNOW, I can cancel the service, but I’ve had to do that about five times with other companies and it is ALWAYS a major pain. I don’t trust them to stop automatically charging me.

I have been charged late fees several times when I am certain I wasn’t late.

I made a policy a few years ago of always going in and hearing my return get beeped in. I don’t use the drop box any more.

HiTech & Casper
You are correct, in that Blockbuster and Netflix do both offer more titles, but for the casual Friday nite take out & movie couple Redbox fills the bill. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Redbox expand their business model in the future to cater to the wider tastes of it’s customers. Time will tell.

You can rent $1 DVDs from a machine at Walmart and the supermarket.

You don't have to return it to the same machine ... or even the same town.

Did not know that...never rented that way but at the local Walmart I see a decent flow of customers renting from those DVD machines (red box?)
