I call BS. Week after week, we have job losses of almost half a million, very few jobs are out there and the rate stays the same?
Bravo Sierra.

This was supposed to be the big news of the day, wasn’t it? Another outlet reported 9.9%.

Just wait until this years class of graduates tried to get jobs.
It is going to get really ugly.

The temporary census jobs are skewing the real numbers...those aren’t real jobs.

No Kidding, we had had no inflation if you take this and that out of the equation
To: Red in Blue PA
I second that.
Its closer to 20 percent. November will be a blood bath.

There were job loses in the schools. That is a green shoot. Now if we can get some jobs loses in the Treasury Dept Union, AFSCME, the SEIU and so on we’ll be moving forward nicely.

If the jobless rate is really @ 9.7% and expected to improve, why is Congress expected to extend Federal money for unemployment benefits through the end of the year?

Come on, all those kids that made a bit of $$ while shoveling a neighbors driveway jobs were included!

Like most highly-anticipated "numbers" reports these days, 9.7% will be officially revised upward in a few weeks with no fanfare whatsoever.
This number is garbage anyway as it ignores those who have just plain given, gone underground, up or are now underemployed in part-time gigs. The real number is still between 17-20%.
