Rep. Ron Paul was the single no vote on a resolution last week to support participation in the 2010 Census.
In a weekly column on his Web site, the Texas Republican said the census has grown far beyond what the framers of our Constitution intended.
He said the government has no business collecting personal information such as ethnicity, income and religious affiliation and categorizing people into groups. From a constitutional perspective, of course, the answer to each of these questions is: None of your business, Paul said. But the bigger question is why government is so intent on compiling this information in the first place?

Why indeed...information is power.
I completely agree with Paul in this case however I will fill out my census form....in as much as the Constitution requires me to.
Ping...
Of course it's more than that, they want to know every aspect of our lives so they can control us.
Every time I hear the stupid census commercials, I get livid.
At the end of every commercial it states something about the census being the way to get your fair share of money.
That was never the intent of the census.
“Its rather unusual for a lawmaker to speak against the census because the headcount is the basis for allotting the 435 House seats and residents are required by law to participate, said...”
It isn’t the head count anyone is objecting to, you stupid statist swine.
By the way, the feds are wasting more money. We got a letter from the govt telling us that we would be getting the census letter in about a week. Real good. I’d know I got the census when it showed up.
LLS
What’s the best way to legally cover yourself with the census.
Last time, I just ignored the thing until ACORN just got sick of knocking on my door.
2 people live here. That’s all they get from me.
If pressed read me my miranda rights. I have the right to remain silent if threatened with arrest or fine.
I keep on wondering if I should add our native american indian heritage.
(It’s true, but so far back in my ancestry that I don’t even know.)
Gotta agree with the crazy old goat on this one.
Ron Paul is correct on this....In other matters he’s an idiot.
Religious affiliation?
They are asking religious affiliation?
yet another issue on which I am in full agreement with Ron Paul
Lemme guess.... this is the part where we'll start seeing the "Ron Paul -- even a stopped clock is right twice a day!" type posts.
Never mind that, if one added up all the issues on which Ron Paul is right, it's more like he's a "stopped clock" that's right 22 or 23 hours a day...
He’s actually frustratingly right on a fair amount of stuff—and disastrously wrong on too much else!
I’m only going to answer the questions that I feel were mandated by the Constitution!
Under Roe v Wade we have a constitutional right to privacy.
If the government wants to violate that civil right they must meet a much higher standard than, they just want to know.
Is there a fine for not filling out all the answers?
I don’t like the intrusive questions either.
