SALT LAKE CITY — Cheryl Maher said Friday that Utah House Majority Leader Kevin Garn is lying about having no physical contact with her when they went hot-tubbing in the nude when she was 15 years old.
She also says they had a long-term relationship at that time and contends that he had affairs with others.
Also, Garn may have violated election laws by not disclosing on federal forms that he paid Maher $150,000 in 2002 — the year he ran for Congress — to keep quiet.
"He is not being completely honest," Maher told the Deseret News by telephone from her home in New Hampshire.
Garn confessed to the Legislature on Thursday that the nude hot-tubbing took place in 1985, when Maher was 15 and Garn was 28 and married...
Maher declined to be specific about what happened, but said Garn "likes massage." She said she does not want to talk about specifics because she wants the focus not on Garn's actions but on "the devastation of my life because of sexual abuse that happens to so many." She hopes that by talking, "others will come forward, too." Later, she sent an e-mail to the Deseret News saying that she was working for Garn at the Pegasus record store he owned in 1985. She also said he had been her LDS Sunday School teacher when she was in fourth grade. She described what she says was a relationship that lasted many months.

"Then there was a day when he took me to Salt Lake, and he stopped and got alcohol, and we ended up at this hot-tub place on State Street. I was scared. I said, 'I don't have a suit.' He said, 'You don't need one,'" Maher wrote.

Sounds like she’s done spending the hush money.
Yeah. But when one's paid the other $150,000 about the "she said" to ensure the "she said" remains "saidless"...guess who's probably at least a wee bit closer to the truth???
In a few of the articles yesterday, she said she wasn't after more $ this round.

The dude admits to being in a hot tub with a naked 15-year-old while his wife was elsewhere.
Not really.
The testimony of both of them as well as public records together corroborate the following facts:
(1) He knew this girl from her childhood.
(2) He was her teacher when she was nine.
(3) He spent time alone with her, nude, in a hot tub when she was 15 and he was a 28 year old married man.
These ascertainable facts give us a picture of a classic sexual predator - an adult man who exposes himself to an underage girl.
The public, given these facts, can draw their own conclusions. And the conclusion that this was all "innocent" and that he did nothing worse than expose himself to an underage girl is the least logical conclusion to draw.
OK, well, this whole thing sounded all consensual and all (age difference and marriage notwithstanding), but that...that is just a bit...icky, shall we say?

So technically I guess it wasn’t “hush” money. It was “hush until” money.
Do you pay more to extend the hush period? How does that work in case I ever accidentally find myself with a naked 15 year old girl in a hot tub.
MY point---I think one is as bad as the other... why after so many years?
I am certain that the money is all gone now. All of a sudden when the bills are due and the money is gone you need to “Help other women”. I love it.
I love it when people get all idealistic and demand stuff. Garn needs to hunt for a new job and this lady needs to get over herself. She took the money and needs to follow through on her end of the deal. Every devil deserves his payment. It seems as though Garn has gotten his.
I am not playing the part of apologist, but this did happen in a different time.

You never accidentally find yourself naked with a 15 yo. There are only very few times you might find yourself accidentally naked.
I guess her mother was missing in action at the time. Shouldn’t her family have known something wasn’t right?
For that matter, his wife perhaps should have known he was up to no good?
Were people ignoring danger signs, or was this guy an unusually smooth liar?
Given that some nasty, selfish people will do whatever they can get away with, do the rest of us need to take lessons in lie detection?
Not icky if you understand the culture of Utah from day one. It is as normal as it gets.
Elvis was in a military unit, sleaseball was supposed to be part of a marriage unit.
