The unbearably haunting picture of a father before he killed himself at Dignitas clinic
UK Daily Mail ^ | 3/14/10 | Laura Topham

To the casual observer, they must have seemed like all the other families dining in the elegant riverside restaurant in Zurich that night.

Laughing and joking, a strikingly attractive woman was evidently revelling in the company of her sister, mother and father as they ate risotto and shared a bottle of wine.

Throughout that cool, clear August evening in 2006, the family enjoyed animated conversation before sharing a late-night gin and tonic. So far so ordinary, except for one extraordinary detail: they all knew this would be their last meal together.

Poignant farewell: John Huff, his wife Barbara and daughters Dianne, far left, and Joanne share their last supper on the night before he killed himself at Dignitas clinic

Poignant farewell: John Huff, his wife Barbara and daughters Dianne, far left, and Joanne share a last supper the night before he killed himself at the Dignitas clinic

The man at the head of the table, John Huff, was to die the next day - having booked himself into the infamous Dignitas assisted suicide clinic in the city.

"People tell me it's an amazing thing to have done for someone, and seeing how happy it made my dad, I can only agree," she says. "I'm just so glad we were able to help him as we did; it would have been horrendous for him to go through more suffering."

What you have "done" is help facilitate MURDER.

PBS had a show on maybe two weeks ago about a man with ALS and his trip to Dignitas. It was a sad, disturbing show to see - why he felt he needed to commit suicide and the process itself.

Part of me understands the want to die while suffering. I’ve been through horrendous breakups and the death of close friends, and my despondence brought me to the brink. God and the love for my family brought me back.

The other part of me is angry that this happens. Having been obese most of my life, I endeavored to drop the weight just 4 years ago, and I sit here, 4 years later, 110 lbs. smaller than I was then. It wasn’t without great pain and “suffering” that I came to this goal.

The point here is that through great tribulation, we achieve great enlightenment. I am of the belief that death will take us however the Lord sees fit. Those of us who suffer the most, be it with cancer or chronic illness, will be rewarded with the Kingdom of Heaven.

Death and the decline of the human condition is part and parcel of the experience of life. To have someone take your life from you is “cheating,” in my opinion.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.

At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

What a disgusting, revolting, horrible thing. Those two cows just wanted not to be bothered; the poor guy only had a few more months to live anyway. Instead they sat there eating chocolate cake and being “lighthearted” about his death.

The thing that’s sad is that his wife, who obviously did love him, and wanted to care for him and make his last days peaceful, was afraid to urge him to live. Instead, as soon as he mentioned the idea, the girls were right there, cheering him on.

What a sick and SELFISH b*stard this man was, to put his wife through so much pain. She had to live through and will relive this day the rest of her life. His daughters seem plain ignorant.

What a horror. So the man took [quite possibly] the fast-track to hell, when he could have suffered instead (just a few months) to gain more expedient entry to the Kingdom of Heaven. Just like some women who abort; can't stand to be "inconvenienced" with 9 months of pregnancy, so opt for death and a lifetime of regret. And folks scoff when you say the devil reigns supreme in millions upon millions of people. Ugh!

St. Michael, the Archangel ... pray for US!!

And now God has shown him all that he COULD have done with his life...and how TRULY happy it would have made everyone.

Sad indeed. We should now pray for his family.

That Frontline ep was really hard to watch, so depressing. I can kinda understand it, but it’s still a bad thing no matter how it happens.

Dignitas????

sounds like a Seinfeld standup routine about japanese cars..

“Have you noticed when they try and mangle a positive word into a car name, you know how they'll do that? The ‘Integra.’ Oh, integrity? No, Integra. The ‘Supra.’ Or the ‘Impreza.’ Yeah? Well, I hope it's not a ‘lemona’...or you'll be hearing from my ‘lawya.’”

its a Lemon alright

‘I felt incredibly sad about what was going to happen and kept hoping John wouldn’t go through with it. I knew he only had another six months to live anyway, but I wanted him with me for as long as possible.”

All through the article the mother does NOT want him to do this. The husband it seems was absolutely set on it, and his daughters backed him up.

This is a terrible tragedy. This wife is obviously haunted by this.
