When U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and his aides walked into Cardinal Daniel DiNardo's conference room at the Catholic Chancery one afternoon three weeks ago to talk about immigration reform, they were greeted by the archbishop, Lutheran Bishop Michael Rinehart and a dozen rabbis and clergy members from a variety of denominations.
They were also greeted by about 6,000 postcards piled in stacks on the large conference table around which the group would sit....
At a time when anger is the currency of the political realm, much of it aimed at illegal immigrants, the religious leaders were saying to Cornyn that they will have his back if he risks becoming a target of that anger by helping craft and pass comprehensive immigration reform....
The church- and synagogue-based community organization TMO has been working with churches in the area for more than a year to educate members on the painful realities of immigration. Presentations include experts like veteran immigration attorney Charles Foster, who was working with President George W. Bush on an immigration reform law when 9/11 doomed it.
Foster is fond of explaining to people that to tell illegal immigrants to go home and get in line doesn't deal with the fact that about 10 million of them would be getting into a line that moves at a pace of 5,000 a year, many leaving citizen spouses and children here as they did so.
Cornyn told DiNardo and the other religious leaders... that it is up to Obama to make immigration reform a priority. He also noted that he had expected to hear from Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who has been working with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on crafting a bill.
...It's a Bible witness, said Rinehart. You shall love the stranger and treat him like a citizen.

“It’s a Bible witness, said Rinehart. You shall love the stranger and treat him like a citizen.”
Yeah, but that darned old Romans 13 thingy kinda gets in the way, don’tcha think?
If Cornyn support Grahamnesty, he’s going to find relection in Texas a tough sell, regardless of what these clergy tell him.
So when Bishop Rinehart comes home from a hard day at the office, and finds an undocumented house guest has moved into his spare bedroom in his absence, does he say "I love you, stranger; I'll treat you like a citizen in my home", or does he say "Get the heck out before I call the police!!!"?
The latter?
I thought so.
He should STFU.
These so called religious leaders and Cornyn better get a clue.
Religious Leaders vs. Members: An Examination of Contrasting Views on Immigration

Poll: Pew and Pulpit Disagree on Immigration
Zogby Survey Finds Religious Leaders and Members at Odds WASHINGTON (December 29, 2009) - In contrast to many national religious leaders who are lobbying for increases in immigration, a new Zogby poll of likely voters who belong to the same religious communities finds strong support for reducing overall immigration. Moreover, members strongly disagree with their leaders contention that more immigrant workers need to be allowed into the country. Also, most parishioners and congregants prefer more enforcement to cause illegal workers to go home, rather than legalization of illegal immigrants, which most religious leaders...

Why is the plight of lawbreakers our concern? Why not send them home and stop this madness?
Tourists and visitors are accepted by the locals.
Those who rack up a litany of violations (illegal entry, falsified identity, identity theft of social security numbers, non-payment of taxes, illegal voting to start...) disrespect this nation.
Add to that no background checks (for criminal exclusion or medical quarantine) and offenses like smuggling, DWI, theft, and sexual assault and we have a problem.
We are told by politicians and employers that they are only here to do the work that no one else will do. And then how they must better themselves so they can get a better job (which presumably WOULD be a job a citizen would do) and more low cost labor must be found.
It’s an endless cycle of immigration at rates we cannot maintain. And those who do go through the paperwork are being disrespected by those who don’t bother to file.

Cornyn’s a huge disappointment to me.
Not a conservative at all (but he runs as one at election time).
If we send them home, they come back. And the Mexican government encourages this.
Yuppers.
Time was when churches would fund community outreach projects to other nations. Parishners would go on a trip to some country and volunteer to help them build a church or a home etc.
Why not push to improve things in Mexico instead?
That whole teach a man to fish thing.
I don't think so. That sounds exactly like the seminar callers to conservative talk radio that begin with "I'm a Republican". The Church is not branch of the government and it has an obligation to all persons regardless of immigration status. It is not about collection plates, it is about souls.
Real Christians do not support law-breakers over those who follow the law. We do not take food out of the mouths of hungry children to give to people who already have a penchant for stealing....
Teaching Liberation Theology just like Rev. Wright.
The CC doesn’t even realize the error of their ways.
vaudine
The CC or any others need to be charged with however many crimes they are committing.
It’s against the law to harbor/facilitate illegals.
Expect a phone call.
