Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.) warned Saturday that the Democratic health care bill could kill his dad.
“As someone who has a 90-year-old father who has prostate cancer, this bill would put him in the grave – literally!” he said. “Because if you’re going to give somebody a pill because you can’t give them the kind of care they need when they are an elderly person – and you’re going to be rationing care – that’s not right.”
Luetkemeyer was one of twelve House Republican freshmen at a 35-minute morning press conference intended to warn of dire consequences that will befall Americans if Democrats succeed Sunday.
His comment was somewhat reminiscent of the claim made by Sarah Palin last summer that the Democratic proposal would create “death panels” as a result of rationing.
Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.), a manager of rural hospitals for three decades, warned that cuts in Medicare and additional compliance burdens in the bill put private rural hospitals with small margins on the “fast track to bankruptcy.” That would make it harder for rural people to get treatment.
“You wind up with a commute that makes the difference between life and death,” he said.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) said that spending on health care under the Senate bill would prevent the county from building its infrastructure and spending on the military.
“It’s going to break America,” he said. “It’s going to torpedo an already sinking ship.”
“This is about taking over one-sixth of the U.S. economy,” he said. “The money’s not going to be there anymore. This is going to be able to grow into the largest entitlement program in this country.”

I'm sure everyone here is feeling pretty crappy, but I'm actually excited. I think the Dems are going to be obliterated in November. Obama will be the deadest duck in history in 7 months, and then Sarah will roll this back in '13. So hang in there everybody. The fight never ends, but that's what keeps things interesting.

Why should the “commissar” give you a break when he can sell it to someone else”? So what if your loved one dies? He only has so many operations available under the new, always broke, socialist budget.
