WASHINGTON Rarely does the government, that big, clumsy, poorly regarded oaf, pull off anything short of war that touches all lives with one act, one stroke of a president's pen. Such a moment now seems near.
After a year of riotous argument, decades of failure and a century of spoiled hopes, the United States is reaching for a system of medical care that extends coverage nearly to all citizens. The change that's coming, if Sunday's tussle in the House goes President Barack Obama's way, would reshape a sixth of the economy and shatter the status quo.
To the ardent liberal, Obama's health care plan is a shadow of what should have been, sapped by dispiriting downsizing and trade-offs.
To the loud foe on the right, it is a dreadful expansion of the nanny state.
To history, it is likely to be judged alongside the boldest acts of presidents and Congress in the pantheon of domestic affairs. Think of the guaranteed federal pensions of Social Security, socialized medicine for the old and poor, the civil rights remedies to inequality.

The jury won't be out long on this one..
Come back in a decade.. Be your own Judge.
The Triumphalism is going to be sickening.
I can’t believe that Stupak bought the lies from that snake in chief. Doesn’t what happened to the Cornhusker deal resonate with him at all?
obaMAO will just rescind his “executive order” after he gets Stupak’s vote... What an idiot!
Come back in a decade.. Be your own Judge.

Won’t take anywhere near that long. The realities of this draconian Marxist monster will be on the table shortly...
A media that tolerates, no, encourages radical change, ought not be afforded any special treatment in the end times of the Republic.
Votes will take many out in November, but the media will still live on,, scurrying like the scoundrels they are ,, spinning for the left and an agenda to destroy this nation.
Let them enjoy their new taskmasters of bureaucracy that hold them and their loved ones lives in their hands now, too.
Obama won’t have to. It won’t survive 9 minutes in a court challenge.
This is madness
With the government involved:
- Health care WILL become more expensive.
- Services WILL become poorer.
That is fact.
“rescind his executive order after he gets Stupaks vote... What an idiot!”
He just needed a reason. He was going to do it any way and anybody that didn’t think so was fooling themselves. He can be the victim and the hero all at once! Perfect.
With this passed, expect cap & trade, immigration, Clinton’s UN Small Arms Treaty against the 2nd amendment, and every other liberal/socialist dream bill to be passed through toot sweet.
Won't work.
I love how they mention how all the benefits are 4 years out.
No one realizes this.
Just wait until all those 30 million are sitting around at election time with no insurance. How this plan will undoubtedly be altered once the GOP takes back the House. Just wait until all those 30 million are sitting around in 2011 and 2012, still with no insurance. They won’t be too happy. Meanwhile, the debt and deficits will continue to pile up, and the cost estimates for this wil have risen by 20-30% minimum just as every other govt program has.
The writer mentioned Johnson and Medicare. He left out how a few months later the Dems lost 50+ seats in the House and how Johnson was so ruined that he didn’t even run for reelection and the GOP began an era where they held the WH for 16 of the next 20 years and 28 of the next 40.
This is just the beginning really. Yes, it hurts to lose this, but the real provisions aren’t scheduled to kick in untin 2014. There’s plenty of time to change this, and I suspect come 2014, this will look entirely different than it does now.
You can expect ticker tape parades and massive TV specials and special courses for Public Schools to all be out there BEFORE the election.
Its going to be a benediction.
from someone who refused to vote and take a stand against live birth abortion at that...
the rats can pat themselves on the back all they want- I have a feeling this still has a long way to go....
It already is, isn't it? Media such as the AP and this particular writer are reveling in their power and are going to remind us daily that they can cast the thing in any light they want to.
Nor is this the end, it's only the beginning. Having created an entire massive new welfare class the Dems aren't going to stop there. The media have until November to call any of us who dare to oppose it racists or worse. As they have been.
But November is closing in, and the only thing that's going to drown this chorus of smirking out is a a seven-month scream. We aren't going to get any help on this, we're going to have to do it ourselves.
We thought McCain-Feingold would be overturned too.
It is encouraging though to see many state governments are fighting this. One guy running for governor here said this law will increase the state budget deficit by $3 billion. If other states expect similar disasters, then hopefully the battle will escalate.
OBAMA IS ON THE BRINK OF BANKRUPTING THE COUNTRY
The challenger would come from the pro-aborts.
BO must have winked-winked to the pro-Death Dems who apparantely are not in any outrage that he would sign an EO to defund their ‘precious abortion right’ to have taxpayers pay for this evil.
