Fieger Mulls Another Run For Governor Prominent Attorney Is Looking At Documents To Run For Office

POSTED: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Geoffrey Fieger might run for governor of Michigan again.

The attorney who rose to prominence by defending Jack Kevorkian won the Democratic party nomination and ran against incumbent Republican Gov. John Engler in 1998. Fieger lost that election.

Michigan's current governor, Jennifer Granholm, is unable to run for a third term because of term limits.

Fieger told WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids the state needs new leadership.

"This state has a rather, in the last 20 to 30 years, has not had a good history of appointing or electing public officials who I believe are really qualified to lead," Fieger said.

Fieger displayed his characteristic wit when he told WOOD-TV he is thinking making another run for governor.

"I'm not kidding you. I've even got the documents. I'm examining the documents. But I think I may also need to make a psychiatric appointment to see if my head needs to be examined to make that leap," Fieger said.

With the race for governor wide open, political consultant Joseph Munem told Local 4 Fieger's sights might be set on the likely Republican opposition.

"I'm sure that part of what is motivating this is he's looking at how things are shaping up in the republican primary and I think he's anticipating Mike Cox as the nominee and he hates Mike Cox, so he'd view this as a real battle royale," Munem said.

The filing deadline does not arrive until May, so Fieger has time to make up his mind.

So Pete Hoekstra is not going to get the Pubbie nod? Is he also running for his Congressional seat as well or is it governor nomination or bust?

Thanks in advance for any reply to my post.

Go for it Geoffrey. Republicans everywhere would love it if you seek the Democratic nomination. Especially if you *win* the nomination.

Sounds to me like he prefers to Run against Cox.

Personally I prefer Hoekstra but would be OK with Cox.

Go for it Feiger. I’m not that fond of Mike (Wayne County Cabal, Urban Legend) Cox myself...but...

what’s the difference between a lawyer and a carp?

One’s a scum-sucking bottom feeder and the other’s a fish.

I’m not sure who’s going to win the primary. Right now the frontrunners are Cox (MI Attorney General), Hoekstra and Bouchard (Oakland County Sheriff). I’m not thrilled with any of them but Bouchard’s plan to trim state government looks good.

The dems are a disaster. You have Andy Dillon (House speaker) who is hated by the teachers’ unions, Lansing mayor Virg Bernero (endorsed by the unions) and the nearest competitors aren’t known by the general public.

I live in MI. I like Hoekstra, but Cox has more charisma and is one of the 14 AGs fighting ObamaCare.

I would love to see Fieger enter the race. He did so well last time./s

Isn’t this a little redundant?

Right now I would bet on Hoekstra winning the nomination, but who knows, the field is wide open - he's retiring from Congress ... Mike Cox has been hurt by ties, real or perceived, to the Kwame Kilpatrick scandal. Businessman Rick Snyder made a splash with a Super Bowl ad and has shot up in the polls, spending his own money. Mike Bouchard's campaign hasn't really caught fire yet.

It is hard to see how Michigan could elect a worse basket case than Granholm. But looks like they are going to try.

I also live in Michigan. I would gravitate more toward Cox if he would come clean about the “party” at the Manoogian Mansion and would quit trying to hamper the investigation.
