Obama Energy Announcement: More Imported Oil, Less Domestic Production, Fewer Jobs

What the President announced today at-a-glance:

Cancelled five lease sales off the Alaska coast that were planned over the next 2 years. One of the areas is estimated to hold up to 77 billion barrels of oil, or more than 3 times US reserves.

A study of the southern Atlantic OCS, with the findings due back next year….no leasing.

Delaying a planned lease sale off Virginia until at least 2012.

Washington, DC – Earlier this morning, President Obama delivered remarks at Andrews Air Force Base on offshore energy exploration and production, and what a scene it was. While many newspapers and cable news pundits cheered the announcement as a positive development, we at the Institute for Energy Research caution lawmakers, the media, and the American people from rushing to conclusions until all the facts are on the table. This is a huge step backward for America’s energy security.

Prior to today’s announcement, the vast majority of OCS areas were open for business. No longer. Today, while President may have stated his support for increased energy development in the Eastern Gulf (which requires congressional action) and the Southern Atlantic (which he’ll study over the next year), he also announced that he would delay the development of the energy resources off Virginia's coast and lock up vast resources off the Alaskan coast.

Additionally, those who cheer the President’s newfound support for domestic energy resources should remember that the very same President’s FY 2011 budget proposal includes upwards of $36 billion in new oil and natural gas taxes, which will discourage domestic production, especially in areas like the Southern Atlantic that have little to no existing infrastructure. While today’s rhetoric made for a good news cycle, the policy is not a step forward, but a huge leap backward.

Thomas J. Pyle, president of the market oriented Institute for Energy Research, issued the following statement:

“America’s offshore energy resources belong to the American people. Not a company, not a special interest, and not a single administration. And a clear majority of the American people supports the commonsense strategy of producing more oil and gas here in America. Unfortunately, today, and to our economic detriment, the President once again ignored the will of the American people.

Just as he did in his State of the Union Address, President Obama cited the imperative of offshore energy exploration. But words alone will do nothing to move this country’s energy policy forward in a meaningful way. It’s similar to his announcement on nuclear loan guarantees—the President talked a good game, then eliminated funding for the only nuclear waste repository in the nation.

“In 2008, when Congress and then-President Bush retired the decades-old moratorium on the safe and environmentally sound practice of producing energy miles off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the American people, and our economy, scored a huge victory. Unfortunately, what President Obama outlined today puts part of that moratorium back in place. Kicking the energy can further down the road is not a change in policy.

“Canada drills for oil in the North Atlantic. Cuba, Brazil, and Venezuela produce energy in the water to our South. The Russians do the same to our West. Yet, America, the most technologically advanced nation in the world, with the most stringent environmental policies on the books, remains the only nation that imposes burdensome regulations and endless streams of red tape on domestic production. Americans want to stop embargoing our own oil. The president’s plan expands that existing embargo, and Americans will pay the price. ”

Everybody knows Obama lies.

The USA has the largest fossil fuel reserves of any country.

So what is this Democrat lie about energy independence?

One thing about King Hussein...he is a good chess player. He is thinking ahead and making his moves. I’d say he is thinking 4 to 5 moves ahead of everyone else. Keep ‘em guessing... he should have used that motto instead of ‘hope & change’. In observation: What’s amazing is how he is able to ‘change’ himself, completely go against everything he has said in the past and make it all seem new, fresh and relevant for the hapless sheeples. And yes, everything has now become a ‘proclamation’. He gets on that podium, in the choicest of locations, gets the media to cover his every breath, moves his head confidently from side to side, chin up, unblinking eyes and delivers deception like halloween candy. And it’s all about him. Every other word is ‘I’... not ‘we’. I hate to say it... but he seems to have moved his ‘King’ a bit closer to the other side of the board. And the rest of republic is on the defensive... trying to contain the damage.
Conclusion: This latest proclamation has nothing to do with drilling for oil.

Democrats want to “reserve” that energy for when they reduce our country to a two tiered system,

that way only they have access to it.

Yep, he is very clever at fooling the American people and the MSM is fronting for him. His strong approval/disapproval rating today on Rasmussen is -8. Let’s hear it for the Comeback Kid.

He only gets away with it because the media lies for him. Every story today was about how he “reversed a ban”. But the moratorium was lifted by Bush in 2008, and the law was changed in september of 2008 by congress, before the election.

The only “ban” in place was Obama’s own energy secretary putting a halt to leases. And now they are only announcing a bare minimum of future possible development, while halting most development, and the media calls it “lifting the ban”.

While at the same time he announces more drilling off the East coast Obama moves back to middle with drilling plan. This in itself is disingenuous as it is tied to cap and tax legislation. This flaming socialist is a snake in the grass but then again that is being redundant.

Real men drill, explore, develop, pump and refine oil. Faggy little lawyers like Hussein 0bamamy prefer to buy from others with money we don’t have.

I would rather have a top Exxon executive as president than a wormy leftist lawyer or any kind of lawyer. Lawyers use law as a weapon. A oil executive makes his mark by providing energy to the masses for their automobiles, houses, etc

Lawyers talk while oil executives do and so does their entire workforce. You know who has my respect.

We must get over this idea Obama is our friend in energy ... no matter what he says he is intentionally running up the price of gasoline so that we will drive less, buy little cars, lose jobs and money and power all while sitting on our hands and backsides and doing nothing in the belief that he is being truthful with America. When energy gets so bad it can no longer be denied it is intentional; it will likely be too late to reverse. The debt is astronomical, but owed, our money is losing value, we are being hamstrung in many areas of development, smart meters are coming. They will have the power and means to shut off our electricity when ever our share has been allocated and used. No kidding ... this is almost here. It is in the back room processes being implemented every day. All areas are being

Look and see.

God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
