Seniors wary of health overhaul impact on Medicare
Google News/AP ^ | March 31, 2010 | RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR

An Associated Press-GfK survey in March found that 54 percent of seniors opposed the legislation that was then taking final shape in Congress, compared with 36 percent of people age 18-50. And last week a USA Today/Gallup Poll found that a majority of seniors said passing the bill was a bad thing — while younger people were positive about it.

There's no doubt that broad cuts in projected Medicare payments to insurance plans, hospitals, nursing homes and other service providers will sting. What hasn't sunk in yet is that the new law also improves the lot of many Medicare beneficiaries. Obama is hoping that most will eventually conclude the plusses outweigh the minuses.

One change has received little attention but could have major consequences. The law authorizes a variety of experiments to provide better care for seniors struggling with multiple chronic illnesses — about half the program's beneficiaries. Prominent voices in the medical community have been clamoring for the government to use Medicare as a laboratory for change.

To some it would appear that Socialized Medicine is great as long as they are the ones who are receiving the coverage.

For now, we need to repeal ObamaCare and Repeal Medicare.

"...54 percent of seniors opposed the legislation that was then taking final shape in Congress..."

And the other 46% have no clue as to what's in it.

CHANGE we can count on:

Wait until the “younger people [who] were positive about it” start to pay their own way in life and are forced to buy overpriced medical insurance that they don’t want.

The Young will be for it until they get the fines or the high premiums.

A conservative, is a liberal who has been mugged by reality.

Medicare is NOT a government handout, people pay into it during a lifetime of work.

It’s mismanaged and run by the government, but people pay plenty into it.

So, all the years that seniors paid into the social security program was really just to give handouts for others, not an investment in their golden years? Really?

What a rip, yet it presages the death panels to come.

Why didn’t Terri Schiavo get booted out of HER hospice at the same point?
