SEOUL, April 3 (Yonhap) -- A fishing boat has vanished and is feared to have sunk after searching for sailors missing from last week's naval disaster, maritime police said Saturday.

Police said they lost contact with the 99-ton boat, carrying nine people aboard, after receiving a distress signal at around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the area off the western sea border with North Korea, where the patrol ship Cheonan ship sank on March 26.

Thanks to Hexenhammer for tracking this article down. I'd love to believe this is just another "accident", but at some point in time SK may just have to face reality.

Anyone know what the sea conditions are like out in the Yellow Sea at the moment? Maybe went down to rough seas?

This is getting bizzare. I asked the mods to close the “front page” story I posted on it at the same time you posted this.

bizzare is right . . .

It’s a small enough vessel that if the seas were rough (like they can get in the Yellow Sea) I could believe it capsizing. Couple little problems though - it sounds like it went down close to the DMZ and close to where the Cheonan went down . . . I have a hard time stomaching coincidences

My speculation is that Kim-Jong Il knows not only that HE, personally, is circling the drain (failed kidneys, etc.), but also that his REGIME is at grave risk of some sort of uprising, most likely from top military brass. So he is doing the usual thing: Provoke a hot conflict with a long-bashed outside nation.

Chances are it will be found.

I can’t see another incident happening out of the blue in the same area.

NK leads everyone astray setting off crummy nukes and lousy rockets while their real R & D goal is an advanced torpedo of some kind, soon to see use in the Persian Gulf and environs.

Another case of bad luck around communists. I hope our country gets luckier around the communist in our White House than SK is getting around the NK communists.

‘The Coast Guard suspected that the boat “Kumyang 98” went down after it collided with a passing-by Cambodia-flag cargo ship, while returning from the search operation for 46 missing sailors of the Navy ship “Cheonan” that sank last Friday night near the South Korean island of Baekryeongdo off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula due to an unexplained explosion, reports said.
The Coast Guard and the Navy currently are pursuing the cargo ship.

It looks hard to stay alive in this area.
