CLARKSVILLE - United Mine Workers of America officials on Thursday urged hundreds of local miners to get ready to fight for unionization at a new mine that will open on a hilltop overlooking this small, Greene County mining town....snip...
Wearing red bandanas as a "call to arms," UMWA officials called on members to fight Alpha Natural Resources' plans to use non-union miners to extract coal from the Freeport Mine, which is expected to open in 2012 or 2013, or force the company to "leave it in the ground."...snip...

While the lamestream media continues to flog the Hutaree story, they conspicuously whitewash the left's involvement in violence.
Why are not unions subject to RICO laws?
Too bad the mine operators don’t contract some outfit like Blackwater. Despite all the noise, unionization of the private sector is stagnant.
Eventually, when Obama is done using the unions for his shameless self-promotion, they will be discarded too. Eventually, the UMWA and others will go by the wayside. They’ll have to when jobs dry up.
Actually, I believe unions are subject to RICO, but the problem is enforcement and building a case. Of course, now we have a government that needs the unions for votes; so it will stonewall any investigation into possible criminal activity.
If they wish to be imprisoned, may their wish be granted. May they also be fined out the wazoo.
Does RICO allow for civil actions?
Because Hoffa is still pushing up daisies in center field.
You can have civil RICO actions, but I believe the action has to meet certain criteria. One of our FReepers in the lawyer business could explain this better than I.
Anyone who has had to deal with corrupt unions, (what the mine workers union is) know they are dealing with a thugs backed by laws their democrat serfs passed in return for millions of dollars.
Anti-American communists plain and simple.
