About a third of the money in Ohio's appliance-rebate program is still available for anyone looking for a discount on several types of home appliances.
That includes dishwashers, for which the allotted money had been exhausted quickly through reserved rebates. However, some reservations have expired unused, allowing other consumers to get in on the program.
"We did for a day or so have what appeared to be a zero for dishwashers," said Nadine Howard, director of Ohio's Energy Resources Division. "The numbers we're seeing now are a little more true."
As of Thursday, there had been 47,579 redemptions overall, with 9,108 reservations pending.
Ohio plans to distribute 89,335 rebates for a total of $10,469,000 to eligible Ohio residents on a first-come, first-served basis.
After reserving a rebate, consumers have three business days to use it. If they don't, the reservation is available for another person's use.
"Clothes washers and dishwashers are neck and neck" in rebates used, Howard said. "Those are probably going to go first. Water heaters have been slower, but we have given more time to those, too, so it is possible they'll run out."

Ohio's ability to balance its budget is in dire jeopardy, yet our wonderful officials are worried about who wins the appliance rebate race.

After 2012, this nation will be a nation of dishwashers and clotheswashers. Thanks to a certain Kenyan Klowntard.
When my dishwsher expired, I downgraded to a dishpan, which works fine, Over 50 years old, only two moving parts. Unfortunately, you cant get replacement parts, and with Obamacare, no repair shops still available. There ought to be a tax credit though.

My wife married her dish and clothes washer, ping.
I think I’ll drive up to Ohio and buy me a dishwasher. Do they only sell to residents?
Ohio and Mexico residents only. (smile)
Well, I do have a friend in Ohio. I wonder if he wants to earn an extra $20...
If you really are concerned about “the environment”, saving energy, and not wasting water:
DO NOT BUY A DISHWASHER! MARRY ONE!
(Ducking and running for cover!)
I will do it for $15....
:-)
A bidding war!
Actually, I'm heading up to the Cleveland area in about 7 weeks, and I could use a dishwasher. But - I just bought the lot next door, and I had an unexpected major plumbing job last week so I won't be buying one for a while. The old one still works, but it's getting close to the end of its lifespan.
