Two senior congressional Republicans on Sunday declined to express confidence in Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele after revelations that the RNC spent $2,000 entertaining potential contributors at a sex-themed nightclub.
The controversy over Steele's leadership of the Republican National Committee comes as the party is hoping to seize back control of the U.S. Congress from President Barack Obama's Democrats in November congressional elections. But Steele's stewardship of the RNC is threatening to distract Republicans at a pivotal time.
Asked whether Steele should step down, Senator Jon Kyl, the Senate's number two Republican, said on the "Fox News Sunday" program: "I'm not in the position of the people who elect Michael Steele to either say he should step down or not."
But Kyl added, "This kind of thing has got to stop or they won't get any contributions."
Representative Kevin McCarthy, a member of the House of Representatives Republican leadership, appearing on the same program, said Steele was not immediately responsible for the nightclub incident and was trying to remedy RNC missteps.
But McCarthy added, "You've got to bring the trust back, and that may mean shaking some other roles inside the RNC as well."
Steele has faced criticism for lavish spending by the Republican National Committee. For example, the RNC last month was forced to explain a $2,000 tab for entertaining young Republicans at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood that ended up costing an RNC staffer her job.
Some prominent Republicans have stepped up criticism of the RNC under Steele as it is working to build cash reserves for the November mid-term congressional elections.

Great - I'm sure this will really motivate the Christian base of the party to give.
Jon Kyl is protesting so that he can maintain his cover that he has no idea what the Voyeur club was about. I’m sure there are others who can vouch for his knowing beforehand that it was a Lesbian Themed “cheaper” Hollywood club with a predominantly female clientele, or he didn’t know Governor Ryan! Betcha’ he did know him ~ check: http://24ahead.com/blog/archives/001501.html
Certainly no Christian would glory in a staffer getting fired for something like this ~ aren't we all humble?
You should clarify what you really mean before posting eh!
Fire him, already! At the very least, hire Sarah! Yeesh!
late to the party Republicans.
Remember
DON’T feed the RINOs.
As one might expect, the ComPost focuses on last week's liberal attack on the RNC. Frankly, if Steele was worth anything at all, we'd spring to his defense. But he is a totally worthless jackass. The sooner he leaves, the better. Otherwise, he will be worth about 10% to the Democrats in the coming election. Everything he does shows his determination to screw up and LOSE.
STEELE MUST GO.
It’s simple, really.
The 2000 bucks is only a very small part of the problem. The RNC has appointed itself as a royal entity totally oblivious to what the grassroots is telling it.
when I wanna know what the Washington Post thinks about any republican, I better read it ‘fore I wipe and flush.
fired?
is that what they now call human sacrifices on the altar of the “MSM god”?
Steele must go and the RNC must be reformed. They are not conservatives and they aren’t behaving or functioning as conservatives.
We all knew after 2008 the first thing to be done was to take back the GOP. It must be done, it is step one to taking back the country.
OK - so someone did someone stupid and got fired. That is what should have happened, and that is what Mr. Steele did. Maybe that person should never have been hired, but they are gone now, justice done.
What does that have to do with any of this? Please explain...I don’t get it.
All the RNC money given to Dede Scoffaza, the private chartered jets, luxury hotel rooms, Steeles expense account, Rinos’, Romney, McCain...there is no way I’m contributing to the RNC. This is where the Tea Party takes a stand. Keep the politics local and contribute directly to CONSERVATIVE candidates.
Conservatives didn’t want Steele in the first place. This bondage club thing is meaningless.
Steele has been a monumental failure running the RNC from Day One, this scandal not withstanding.
I think former Governor Sarah Palin should be the next Chair of the RNC. Let’s see what she can do with it.
Gelding Old Party = Reach Across the Aisle Socialism
RNC = RINO in Charge
Steele, by his actions, would rather have the democrat party win an election instead of a conservative.
I am waiting to see what happens in FL when Crist loses the primary.
