Whitman donates $20 million more to her campaign

Surprise! Billionaire Meg Whitman's campaign won't go broke after all.

Whitman, the front-runner for the Republican nomination for governor, will announce today that she contributed $20 million more to her war chest late Monday, the Mercury News has learned.

That means the former eBay chief executive has donated $59 million to her campaign so far, with two months to go before the primary and seven months left before the general election.

The $39 million Whitman donated previously had already set a California political record for self-funding. But her ubiquitous radio and TV ad campaign led to her spending $27.2 million in the first 11 weeks of the year — an average of $358,439 a day. So her campaign kitty had been running on empty.

Whitman has vowed to shell out as much as $150 million in her quest to become California's next governor. The current record for political self-funding is held by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who ponied up $108 million of his own money for his 2009 re-election bid.

Must be a heck of an office view if you're willing to cough up money like that.

I’m gonna write in Tom McClintock just to piss her off. Anyone with me? We can’t let her just buy control over our lives. Brown is a whimp, Poziner is a progressive like Maggot.

I sure hope CA will not vote this Democrat posing as a Republican in. Just once, do the right thing.

I think that sounds like a great idea. Everyone write in his name.

No kidding! Of course, “public servants” always manage to leave office richer than when they arrived. Funny how that works.

I wish she would send a mil or 2 my way. ;-)

“These men (government officials), in point of fact, are seldom if ever moved by anything rationally describable as public spirit; there is actually no more public spirit among them than among so many burglars or street-walkers.”

1 if by land 2 if by sea 3 if by Zero. Get the word out, this time it doesn’t matter if we vote 3rd party or write in as the current runners all suck.

Just goes to show that money still buys votes! I surely don’t want the Democrats to win, but buying your way into government seems almost as bad.

Why is it that the Howard Jarvis Tax Foundation is backing her? Anyone know why?

An argument could be made (however I’m not making it) that if she’s the nominee it would be better to vote for Jerry Brown. I for one, looking back, would have voted for Bustamante instead of Arnold. Cruz would have governed as liberal as Arnold, but when 2006 rolled around we would have been able to run a GOP candidate to challenge him. Instead everyone whimpered off into a corner and let Arnold run for reelection, and we got another for years of Bustamante-Schwarzenegger liberalism.

The question is, do we want four years of Brown/Whitman liberalism, or eight years of it? With Brown as Governor a real Republican would be able to challenge him.

Call it the “Good ole boy clan”. I really don’t know why, but can figure out that those in power like to promote those that believe as they do. You can bet that if any group that promotes her, they are corrupt!

Just disregard those that you “think” are for your interests - better to go by your gut instincts and yes, blogs and alternate media. Don’t pay any attention to the MSM media.

Sometimes there is just not a good choice. Not sure what to do in this case - sometimes you have to “as they say” vote for the least of two evils - devil you don’t like.

These days, there seems to be no choice - you have to vote for indecent people. Until Tea Party candidates run, you have to do what you must....

Brown seemed to transform some as mayor of Oakland where he got down from the ivory tower and saw how the streets work. He instituted a military academy against major liberal opposition for instance. He saw how big an issue crime was and trying to get businesses to move in to areas that smell like urine. Meg is another Arnold who won’t take on the public unions. Not sure Brown would either but at least he understands the problem.

She should donate all of her money to her campaign and be less trouble to ordinary, peasant constituents later on.

If it’s not an official write-in candidate, the Secretary of State won’t even report it, and neither Whitless nor Poison-er will even be aware.

...Though it certainly would feel good to vote for the person who should have been elected in 2003.
