Emblem of a divisive and controversial political movement or historic symbol of American defiance?
Those are two views of the Gadsden Flag, the bright yellow banner adorned with the image of a coiled rattlesnake and the words "Don't Tread on Me."
The flag has been adopted by tea party activists, who have unfurled it at rallies across the nation, and some Republican members of Congress, who hung it from a balcony at the U.S. Capitol before a vote on the health care overhaul.
On Friday, the flag will fly over the state Capitol and that doesn't sit well with one veteran lawmaker.

The Connecticut Tea Party Patriots, a loose-knit group of activists from across the state, received permission from the state Capitol police to fly the flag from Friday through April 15.

The New England states seem to be rediscovering their noble history.
This is sort of like flying the Mogen David over the Reich Chancellery in 1942.
Excellent!
The "other side" is ahead of us right now.
“divisive and controversial political movement”
Translation: the left/media axis doesn’t like it.
Good grief, this flag in question was the FIRST AMERICAN FLAG!!!!
I thought the “Don’t tread on me” flag was an old American flag and as such may be flown anywhere? Personally, i really like it.
A Sons of Liberty or “Appeal to Heaven” flag would be more historically accurate, would it not?
And THAT is the WHOLE PROBLEM with our system - VETERAN LAWMAKERS.
Too many legislators and elected officials considered their terms of office equivalent to tenured occupations.
Then they put an agenda of keeping that job and increasing its salaries and perk ahead of the welfare of the people who elected them.
Term Limits should be a cornerstone of the Tea Party Movement.
And WHY should the fact that a Democrat is opposed to a symbol of our nation's struggle for freedom and independence from an pervasive and intrusive Royal Government surprise ANYONE???
Democrats - the Tories of the 21st Century.
Poll needs more help. It’s almost a tie.
"Generally speaking, most people would agree the top of the Capitol is not the place for partisan political flags," said state Rep. Michael Lawlor, a Democrat from East Haven and co-chairman of the legislature's judiciary committee./em>
Generally speaking, when one of the political parties has gotten itself into a space where it considers the Gadsen Flag to be partisan, something has gone very wrong with it.

I immediately looked for the “humor” or “satirical” keywords. Not there, this is great.
Hear, hear!
That flag is the only flag flying from the tall flagpole at my house.
Oops, somebody better tell Virginia their state seal has got to go or someone might get offended...
