My view is I think there is good in both PiS and PO, and the status quo is good, and that neither party gain too much power.

I admired Kaczynski, at least from outside because I saw a man who truly loved his country. I don’t know about his domestic policies, so I can’t comment.

Sure there is. We should remember, that in 2005 it was obvious for almost everyone, that they'll form the ruling coalition - to reform the country. Which I'd applaud with all my heart

But then this ridiculous war between them broke up - based on personal ambitions and lust for more power, and .... we can see what we have now. They are poles apart (or Poles apart?).

However - maybe this current tragic situation will bring some good fruits?

PiS has got more social tendencies than PO. PO is a typical liberal party in European meaning. Taking U.S. criteria into consideration, both PiS and PO would be parts of the Republican Party. PiS is very socially conservative while PO is fiscally conservative. PiS’s patriotism is rather an old, a pre-war one, strongly based on our history and traditions. PO on the other hand, presents more European, more open kind of patriotism, where individual wellbeing is the most important factor.

In 19th century there were two basic tendencies in the Polish literature -the Romanticism and the Positivism. The Romanticism was connected with such names like Adam Mickiewicz, Kamil Norwid or Julius Slowacki (Cz.Niemen based his lyrics mainly on their ideology) while the Positivism is supported mainly by B.Prus, H.Sienkiewicz (e.g. Quo Vadis), etc.

Those two tendencies are different and could be difficult to unite. Anyway, they are like two parts of the one and the same heart - one cannot live without the other.
E.g. I am a PiS supporter, but economic ideas of the Civic Platform seem to me much better and more suitable for contemporary times.

Anyway, both PiS and PO formed one party 10 years ago named Electoral Action - Solidarity. Now, these two halfs are hardline contenders as others actually don't count.
