Mike Huckabee has overtaken Mitt Romney in (a way-too-early) survey of Republicans asking who they would support for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination if the primary was held today.
A CNN/Opinion Research poll, conducted April 9-11, had Huckabee leading Romney 24 percent to 20 percent. Last month, Romney had the lead by 22 percent to 17 percent.
Sarah Palin comes in third at 15 percent closely followed by Newt Gingrich at 14 percent. Texas Rep. Ron Paul gets 8 percent and everyone after that is in low single digits.

Sarah has remained coy about running, while Mitt and Huck haven’t.

Was this poll taken in a closet inhabited by non-sighted journalists (a common species these days)?
If so, then I can understand the results, otherwise I find the results extremely suspect!

I could be wrong, but I don't think the eventual winner has entered the race yet.

Neither Romney or Huckabee could beat McCain ... MCCAIN ... That's a pretty good indicator of how silly this poll, and others like it, truly are. If the GOP serves up one of these candidates, it is surely time to fracture the party -- and that coming from someone who likes Huckabee.

If either of these gentlemen end up being the republican candidate then the GOP is actually advocating for Obama as president. The fix will be in.

NY 23 writ large. Exactly. And sadly, I can make a decent case against almost all of the currently best known candidates. the only one I don't know enough about to rule outright is Pawlenty.

We need someone new and conservative and intelligent and well spoken and smart and good looking and electable. That person, with the possible exception of Palin, has not yet shown up... Palin can win if she positions herself with the terrified American woman who sees her children living as economic serfs in a land of high poverty, low growth, unemployment and crime.

Romney is a white male and Huck is a bubba (not that I mind Bubba, its just that nobody else in America appreciates or understands true quality). So, Jindahl? Palin? Brown turns out to be a leftist... Who???

I agree, we need a new candidate to step up...a modern Reagan type. I like Palin, but I don't think she's electable. She poll with some very high and strong negatives..the MSM has been fairly successful in undermining her...and he leaving office gave them a solid point to pound. I understand why she left office, but to the less engaged it just looks like quitting.

I think Palin can pull it off if she can rally the women. They went for Obama big time. This block votes with their...well... let's just say they don't always think through the consequences of their votes. Palin can be the break through female Thatcher. If we can elect a doofus like Obama we can elect Palin. Its her story to tell and voters need to be convinced. Having said that, I think a fresh new conservative face with some intellect and communication skills would be refreshing. Romney is pink, Huck is cute but can't win nationally. Jindal could do it but the media is already starting to dismantle him. Ryan is a long shot but he'd be great... Its tough being a conservative.
