What a huge bore! Second only to the Boston Marathon in the degree of boredom it enduces.

Really? You came on this thread and jabbed, and were jabbed in return. Sounds like trading jabs to me.
To: driftdiver
It wasn’t intended to be a snide remark. I just don’t understand the interest in the invitability of a shuttle landing and subsequent self-congratualtions by NASA employees, or a Kenyan winning the Boston Marathon.

“in the invitability of a shuttle landing “
Most people have no idea what it takes to launch or land a shuttle.
It's an amazing feat every time it happens. Some of us have a great amount of respect for what it shows.
And as a former marathon runner; well it's hard to explain the draw of that if you haven't run one.

I worked on the Solid Rocket Booster project about twenty-years or so ago and appreciate the complexity of these types of projects. Since then, I’ve worked on projects just as complex in the private sector, but the project leaders didn’t get, or expect, the public praise and respect that NASA gets. NASA gotten away with screw-ups, such as simple math miscalculations that caused a multi-billion dollar failure of a Mars landing and the forecast life of Mars Rovers (had their lives been predicted more accurately they could have been put to better use.)

There’s always risk and danger involved with these landings as we saw in 2003. Besides that we’re down to the last few landings so we might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
