Sometimes you have a headline that makes the rest of the story superfluous, but here's the background. Actor Lance Baxter, otherwise known as "D.C. Douglas," currently known as the man who informs you how much GEICO can save you on car insurance, left a message last month with FreedomWorks in which he asked the group how many "mentally retarded" people it had on staff and what it would do when a tea partyer "killed someone." On April 14, FreedomWorks put his voicemail online.
Today, Douglas reports he's been dropped from GEICO's campaign. His dramatic news release is here; he claims to have been motivated by "the recent gay and racial slurs slung by Tea Party members at Congressman Barney Frank and Representative John Lewis during the Health Care Reform Weekend," and says he's "open to any attorneys taking on this case pro bono."

>> Not him. Thats some British bloke.
British? I thought he was Australian...
Uh, Progressive is owned by one of the biggest contributors to liberal causes and candidates out there (Peter Lewis). So I wouldn't go there... Good for GEICO for recognizing this idiot's stupid remark.
He’s not been fired for offending Tea Party members; he’s fired for interfering with his employers ability to sell insurance.
>> No, I thought so, too, but e’s British.
The plot thickens.
So the guy imitating the gecko in the meeting was correct after all!
Total POMmie.

I know for a fact that Morgan Lucas is NOT a liberal.
"Think about it, Derek. Male models are genetically constructed to become assassins. They're in peak physical condition...They can gain entry to the most secure places in the world...And most important of all, models don't think for themselves. They do as they're told. The truth is male models have been assassinating world leaders for over 200 years. Abe Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery, right?....So they hired John Wilkes Booth to do Mr. Lincoln in. The first model/actor!"
Zoolander quote?
Of course, wasn’t it GEICO that pulled all its advertising off Glenn Beck’s show last year in response to a call to arms from some Marxist group in Chicago? But they kept their advertising on MSNBC’s shows. If I recall correctly, at the time there were a lot of calls to agents, cancelling policies. I know a friend of mine did. She told he agent that since Glenn Beck wasn’t their sort of program, she was probably not their sort of client. Went to State Farm.
Yep!
Me too (since '84)
They have those heartwarming commercials featuring a wonderful band named 'Hem'. (You might remember the opening lyric of one..."I am holding half an acre, torn from the map of Michigan".
Great songs...great songstress.
And if I remember correctly, the band had out ads looking for a female singer when he overheard his babysitter sitter....and the rest is history
check out Pekin through an independent. Stop buying direct, its expensive.
There’s something that’s been largely overlooked, mostly a technical point, but its worth mentioning.
Apparently what was said to Barney Frank, by whoever it was, was something along the lines of “homo communist.”
My question is: How is this a slur? He is in fact a homosexual, and if this is a supposedly a slur because someone is overemphasizing his political views, then in fact, its a political slur, not a slur against gays. The remark about his orientation, technically speaking, was simply correct.
I don’t get it.
Posting to an old topic, but I swear even the most recent commercials sound like the same guy (Geico pitchman). Are we sure they fired him?
